Understand Why Beavers Build Dams

Beavers are rodents well-known for their ability to modify the environment. They use their teeth to chew and pile logs, branches, and mud in the middle of water courses, creating a deeper flooded area that makes it harder for predators to access and protect their nests.
Within the dam, beavers live in dome-shaped burrows that can only be accessed through underwater entrances and serve as food storage and thermal insulation in winter. These constructions host a small ecosystem of microorganisms and animals that use them as shelter and food sources.
Dam in the Czech Republic is Not One of the Largest
According to Jaroslav Obermajer from the Czech National Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Protection, beavers build a dam in two days, and the newly created swamps and puddles provide ideal habitats for frogs, rare crayfish, frogs, and other plants and animals.
