Visit to Angra Involved Delegation Including Two Ministers, of Mines and Energy and Chief of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, Highlighting Its Importance to the Current Government
The Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, fulfilled what he promised during a meeting with the mayor of Angra dos Reis, Fernando Jordão, in June. On that occasion, the Government announced measures that would restart the Naval Construction and nuclear industry of Angra dos Reis.
The promise was that the minister would come to Angra to visit the nuclear plants and thus make it clear to investors and the public that the plan is indeed to resume and complete the works of the Angra 3 plant, halted since 2015.
Well, the Angra Nuclear Plant received a government delegation yesterday (07/10) that visited the construction site of Angra 3 and the warehouse where its equipment is located.

The delegation consisted, in addition to Bento Albuquerque, of the minister chief of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, Jorge Antônio Oliveira, and the leaders of the National Electric System Operator (ONS), the Energy Research Company (EPE), and the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel).
The Minister of Mines and Energy stated during the visit that, “The visit was very enlightening. My goal now is to organize a new meeting, this time with the authorities from the economic area, so they can echo the importance of this relevant undertaking.”
The host of the meeting, the president of Eletronuclear, Leonam Guimarães, spoke about the importance of the visit, “It is an unprecedented visit with the presence of two state ministers and the leadership of the electric sector. It is a clear demonstration of the importance that is now given to nuclear electric generation.”
The construction of the Angra 3 Nuclear Plant was halted in 2015, shortly after the corruption scandals denounced by the Lava Jato operation, which culminated in the arrest of the president of Eletronuclear at the time, Othon Pinheiro, who is also a nuclear physicist.
The government promised that this year it would launch the public notice to define the partner in resuming the works and putting it into operation by 2026.
