Representatives of the French multinational in Brazil met with members of the Economic Development Secretariat of the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro last Tuesday (01/06). In the meeting, Delfosse highlighted the interest in the natural gas sector.

“The new gas law and the proactive action of the Fluminense executive branch are important factors to encourage investments in this sector and implement the new gas market in the State, as competitiveness has greatly advanced with measures related to the gas ICMS,” affirmed the executive.

“The State Government is aligned with the productive sector of natural gas, bringing to the Senate and the National Agency of Petroleum (ANP) demands aimed at improving the business environment for energy sector investors,” stated the State Secretary of Economic Development, Leonardo Soares.

Northeast Fluminense Thermoelectric Plant in Macaé, Powered by Natural Gas Produced in the Campos Basin, Is Considered the Most Efficient Among Thermoelectric Plants in Operation in Brazil

The Northeast Fluminense Thermoelectric Plant in Macaé has an installed capacity of 826 MW and is regarded as the most efficient among thermoelectric plants in operation in the country and in the EDF Group portfolio.

The unit is powered by natural gas produced in the Campos Basin and has been in operation since 2004, generating energy for 2.5 million people in the State of Rio de Janeiro.

1800 Jobs in Macaé: Ibama Grants French EDF License for Construction of Northeast Fluminense Natural Gas Thermoelectric Plant 2

The Northeast Fluminense natural gas thermoelectric plant 2, in Macaé (RJ), will have a capacity of 1.7 GW. The largest fossil generation agent currently in operation, UTE Porto de Sergipe I, has an authorized capacity of 1.5 GW, according to ANEEL data.

One of the suppliers for the UTE will be the UPGN of Cabiúnas, which processes natural gas from the Campos and Santos basins. However, the environmental impact report (Rima) presented indicates other alternatives, such as pre-salt gas via Rota-2 or a regasification terminal for LNG at the planned Macaé Port Terminal (Tepor).

To supply UTE Northeast Fluminense 2 in Macaé, a gas pipeline will be constructed from Cabiúnas, within the same easement of the gas pipeline of UTE Nossa Senhora de Fátima, a project by BP and Eneva, whose easement is already licensed by Ibama.
