Adora Flora City Is The Second Cruise Ship Built In The Country And Reinforces The Ambitions Of The Chinese Shipbuilding Industry

China has presented to the world the Adora Flora City, its second large cruise ship, entirely built on national territory. Scheduled for delivery in 2026, the vessel will operate routes in South and Southeast Asia, focusing on innovation, comfort, and state-of-the-art environmental solutions.

Adora Flora City, Second Cruise Ship Reinforces Chinese Protagonism In Shipbuilding

The Adora Flora City cruise ship was launched last Sunday (28), according to the specialized portal Offshore Energy. The construction is signed by the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) shipyard, part of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), and represents a milestone for Chinese maritime engineering.

With a length of 341 meters and a capacity for over 5,200 passengers, the new ship is even larger than its predecessor, the Adora Magic City. It establishes itself as one of the largest vessels ever built in the country, surpassing its older sibling by 17.4 meters in length.

Onboard the Adora Flora City, innovation is not only in size but also in technology. The vessel is equipped with two advanced desulfurization systems and five environmental control solutions. The aim is to ensure a reduced impact on the environment, aligning maritime tourism with the sustainability goals set by the country.

According to China Daily, the ship was named after the city of Guangzhou, also known as the “City of Flowers,” which will serve as the starting point for international cruises operated by Adora Cruises. The debut on commercial routes is planned for 2027.

Project Integrates International Partnership Of US$ 1.5 Billion

The construction of the Adora Flora City is part of an international contract between Adora Cruises, the Italian Fincantieri, and CSSC. The agreement involves two Vista-class ships and options for four more, totaling around US$ 1.5 billion in investments.

Adora Cruises, which started operations in 2024 with the Adora Magic City, is the result of a joint venture between Carnival Corporation, the China Investment Corporation sovereign fund, and CSSC itself. The initiative seeks to consolidate China’s presence in the global cruise sector, traditionally dominated by European shipyards.

Strategic Expansion Of Asian Maritime Tourism

The new cruise ship will mainly serve South and Southeast Asian markets, with departures from Guangzhou. The proposal is to strengthen regional tourism and offer a modern and environmentally responsible alternative to the growing consumer audience of maritime travel in Asia.

According to Offshore Energy, the delivery of the Adora Flora City is scheduled for the second half of 2026. With this, China reinforces its ambition to become a power in the cruise market, previously limited to major names from Europe and the USA.
