Advantages of Electric Trucks
The arrival of these models in the market has brought various positive changes, in addition to the low environmental impact. One example of these advantages is the high efficiency of electric truck motors in converting electric energy into movement, allowing for longer distances traveled with lower energy consumption along the route.
This advantage greatly benefits those freight drivers and fleet managers who take long trips with few stops. With proper maintenance, it is possible to maintain efficiency for a large part of the truck’s useful life.
Climate Change: Electric Trucks ‘Can Compete With Diesel’
The notion that battery-powered heavy trucks cannot compete with diesel is being challenged by new research. A new study claims that if fast charging networks are built for trucks, they could surpass diesel in terms of cost.
With fast charging, the larger the vehicle, the greater the advantage of electric, the researchers say.
In the UK and worldwide, there is a strong shift among consumers towards electric cars. March figures in the UK show that battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle sales reached 14% of the market. When it comes to pure electric vehicles, Western Europe is the global hotspot, with over 700,000 battery-powered cars sold in 2020.
About the Companies
The AB Inbev business, owner of the Budweiser, Stella Artois brands, and Ambev in Brazil, spans about 50 countries as a leading global brewery, and the Chinese area is where the company enjoys considerable popularity.
Budweiser China began using electric vehicles from the Chinese manufacturer in its operations 3 years ago to transport goods in Foshan, where its factory is located. In 2019, the Chinese manufacturer delivered 21 electric trucks to AB Inbev, aiming to assemble the largest fleet of these electrics in North America.
The Chinese manufacturer, BYD, is a global leader in electric vehicles and started developing trucks in 2012, becoming the first manufacturer to invest in R&D for these vehicles on a global scale. By then, it had already delivered over 13,000 trucks in various countries such as the United States, Canada, Brazil, and Australia.
