Great Wall Motors (GWM) Plans to Install 100 Charging Stations for Electric Cars in Municipalities of SP. The Automaker Aims to Consolidate the Electric Sector with Its Technological Infrastructure and Fast Charging

Great Wall Motors (GWM), a vehicle manufacturer, plans to install 100 charging stations for electric cars of any model in municipalities in the state of SP. The announcement of the installation was made this Wednesday (16) by João Dória (PSDB), the governor of the state. The initiative is part of the investments of R$ 10 billion that Great Wall Motors is applying in the production of electric cars at the plant in Iracemápolis (SP), in the interior of the state.

The electric car charging network of Great Wall Motors will be powered by the installation of solar panels in the city of São Paulo, while the second phase will include charging points in municipalities of other states besides SP, according to Dória.

According to the announcement, the company’s project also estimates the creation of a network of partners, startups, and suppliers, to create an electrification ecosystem in the country, contributing to decarbonization. Dória emphasized that the 100 charging stations for electric cars will be installed in the main municipalities of SP as a way to support consumers of the automaker’s electric vehicles, which plans to produce about 100 thousand vehicles per year in the state.

The chargers for vehicles will be installed at Great Wall Motors’ sales and service points, but can also be expanded to commercial locations with high traffic, such as parking lots, supermarkets, and shopping malls.

The Automaker’s Factory in SP Is the Largest GWM in Terms of Production 

According to Pedro Bentancourt, CRO of GWM, as the company progresses with its consolidation project in the country, it adds new aspects that will ensure the success of its brand and products, and the expansion of the charging point infrastructure is important to support consumers in deciding to transition to a new type of propulsion.

In January of this year, Great Wall Motors (GWM) announced the start of production of electric and hybrid cars at its unit in Iracemápolis, in the interior of SP. The automaker claims it will be its largest operation outside its home country, with a production capacity of up to 100 thousand vehicles per year.

Offering electric and hybrid models that are still in development, the company will make its first launch at the end of 2022, and the expectation is that 2,000 jobs will be created by 2025.

GWM Plans to Become an Export Center for Latin America 

According to Great Wall Motors, its goal is to become an export center for Latin America and contribute to the advancement of the Brazilian market, with intelligent and electrified technology in all its products.

The automaker purchased the Mercedes-Benz factory, and it will undergo modernization by the end of this year, including digital processes in manufacturing and assembly line with artificial intelligence.
