Rains Raise Rivers to Alert Level in Five Cities in Pernambuco After Accumulations of Up to 93.15 mm in 24 Hours, According to Apac

The rains in Pernambuco recorded last weekend raised rivers to alert levels in five interior cities, according to Apac, increasing the risk of flooding and requiring attention from residents in riverine areas due to rising water levels.

The warning was issued this Monday (2) by the Pernambuco Agency of Water and Climate. The rains in Pernambuco caused rivers in the Zona da Mata Sul and the Agreste to rise, creating risks of disturbances and a need for constant monitoring of hydrological conditions.

Rains in Pernambuco Raise the Level of the Pirangi River in the Zona da Mata Sul

In the Zona da Mata Sul, the alert was issued after the level of the Pirangi River rose. There is potential for impacts in the municipalities of Maraial, Jaqueira, and São Benedito do Sul.

According to the agency, residents in riverine areas should monitor official updates and watch for signs of flooding or potential need for preventive evacuation due to rising waters.

Canhotinho River and Inhumas River Reach Alert Level in the Agreste

In the Agreste, the Canhotinho River reached the alert level on Sunday (1), leading to a flood risk warning in the municipality of Canhotinho.

On the same day, the Inhumas River also reached attention level in Palmeirina, where flooding was reported after the rains in Pernambuco. The situation reinforces the need for continuous monitoring of watercourses in the region.

Accumulation of Up to 93.15 mm in 24 Hours

Hydrometeorological monitoring indicated that Caruaru registered the highest volume in the last 24 hours, with 93.15 millimeters. Following were Canhotinho, with 63.25 mm, and Lagoa dos Gatos, with 60.98 mm.

Palmeirina accumulated 57.89 mm, while Goiana registered 54.2 mm. Significant volumes were also recorded in Bonito, with 53.4 mm, and Cumaru, with 52.66 mm during the same period.

Recommendations and Continuous Monitoring

Apac reported that it continues to monitor river levels and that new communications may be issued as the rains in Pernambuco evolve.

The recommendation is that residents in risk areas follow the official channels of the municipalities and Civil Defense, avoid crossing flooded areas, and seek safe locations in case of rapid water level rise. The agency emphasizes that the situation remains under attention.
