Civil Defense Issues Alert for Extratropical Cyclone Set to Hit São Paulo with Storms, Hail, and Winds of Up to 115 km/h.
An extratropical cyclone is expected to hit the state of São Paulo between Friday (11/07/2025) and Saturday (8), causing severe storms, hail, and extreme winds, according to an alert issued by the State Civil Defense this Thursday (11/06/2025).
The meteorological phenomenon, which forms off the coast of the Southeast region, results from the combination of pre-frontal heat, the advance of a cold front, and intense cyclone circulation, creating conditions for severe weather in various regions of the state.
According to the meteorologists from Civil Defense, there is a risk of rapid and heavy rainfall, accompanied by frequent lightning and microbursts — bursts of air that descend from the clouds and hit the ground in a straight line, potentially generating winds exceeding 200 km/h.

Regions with Highest Risks of Rain and Winds
The forecast indicates that the accumulated rainfall will be highest in cities like Presidente Prudente and Marília, considered areas of maximum alert.
In Araçatuba, São José do Rio Preto, Barretos, Franca, Ribeirão Preto, Bauru, and Araraquara, the volume is expected to be high, while the rest of the state, including the metropolitan region of SP, Vale do Ribeira, Vale do Paraíba, Serra da Mantiqueira, Baixada Santista, and North Coast, is likely to record average precipitation levels.
Regarding the winds, the situation is concerning:
115 km/h in the North Coast;
110 km/h in Baixada Santista, Vale do Ribeira, and Itapeva;
100 km/h in Greater São Paulo, Campinas, Sorocaba, Vale do Paraíba, and Serra da Mantiqueira;
95 km/h in the regions of Presidente Prudente, Marília, Araçatuba, Barretos, Franca, and Bauru.
These gusts can cause falling trees, roof damage, and interruptions in power supply, highlighting the importance of the preventive measures recommended by Civil Defense.
Integrated Action Between Southern and Southeastern States
The extratropical cyclone does not only affect São Paulo. Moving from the Southern states, the phenomenon prompted a joint action among the Civil Defenses of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro.
During the system’s evolution, the Monitoring Centers of these states will share information in real time to track the cyclone’s movement and behavior, increasing the accuracy of preventive and response actions.
This integration aims to minimize impacts and expedite responses, especially in areas more vulnerable to storms and intense winds.
Civil Defense Mobilizes Crisis Cabinet in SP
The state government has reported that the crisis cabinet will be activated this Saturday (11/08/2025), when there is a higher potential for severe weather. The entire State Civil Defense System will be on standby.
Institutions like the Fire Department, Arsesp, Artesp, Sabesp, Social Fund of SP, SP Waters, and energy and gas concessionaires will participate in the operations at the Emergency Management Center (CGE).
According to the agency, mobilization is essential to coordinate emergency actions and support to the population in case of damage caused by the extratropical cyclone.
Recommendations and Safety Measures
Civil Defense emphasizes some important guidelines for the population during the storm period:
Avoid wooded areas and do not park vehicles under trees;
Gather loose objects in balconies and yards;
During storms with lightning, stay away from metal structures and water;
Never cross flooded areas;
If a live wire falls on your vehicle, stay inside and call the Fire Department (193);
In risky situations, call Civil Defense (199);
To receive alerts on your cellphone, send your zip code via SMS to 40199.
Constant Monitoring and Prevention
Civil Defense reinforces that monitoring of the extratropical cyclone will be continuous until weather conditions stabilize.
Additionally, state and municipal agencies are working to ensure a quick and effective response to any emergencies caused by the storms and winds expected to affect SP in the coming days.
As the phenomenon advances, authorities urge the population to remain calm, follow official guidance, and avoid spreading unverified information.
Thus, it will be possible to face yet another episode of the extratropical cyclone in the state safely.
