Another Copy From China: Mini Cooper Sells For Just R$ 13 Thousand And Grabs Internet Attention. But, Unfortunately, This Subcompact Hatch Delivers Only 2 HP Of Power (the same as an electric bike).
Chinese automakers have evolved significantly and are now competing for top sales spots worldwide. In Brazil, brands like BYD, GWM, and Caoa Chery are not only expanding with new factories but have also captured a considerable market share in Brazil, thanks to consumer trust. However, there are still cases of Chinese automakers trying to enter the market with models inspired by European designs, as is the case with the new Chinese subcompact hatch inspired by the Mini Cooper.
Chinese Mini Cooper Costs Only US$ 2,500 – Something Around R$ 13 Thousand
This is the case of Shandong Alma Technology, which offers an undeniable copy of the Classic Mini Cooper from the 1960s, powered by a small electric motor that produces a mere 2 HP, but according to the manufacturer, can carry up to four occupants.
Even at the bargain price of US$ 2,500, the equivalent of R$ 13 thousand, few people venture. Upon checking the presentation page of the Chinese Mini Cooper, it is possible to observe that there are so many statements that only raise more questions about what to really expect.

Costing R$ 16,000, the new Yamaha features a 125 cc hybrid engine with electric assistance, delivers 8.3 hp, includes ABS, optimized fuel consumption, Y-Connect connectivity, 25 liters of storage space, and a surprising 4-year warranty in the urban segment.
It may seem like a mistake, but 2 HP is indeed the power provided, similar to that of an electric bicycle. Despite its affordable price, the model includes features such as a multifunction steering wheel and a multimedia center, although both are quite simple.
The manufacturer also highlights that the battery can be fully recharged in up to three hours. Additionally, each wheel of the subcompact hatch is equipped with disc brakes, and the vehicle offers a rearview camera, electric heating, and even voice connectivity. Unfortunately, information about the interior is limited, with only one image of the dashboard available for viewing.
Design Of The Chinese Mini Cooper

As for the exterior of this “wheeled contraption,” one cannot deny the resemblance to the original Mini Cooper. From the side, the Alma-M200 resembles older and classic Cooper models with a short, high, and cut nose.
Moreover, the front grille appears to be embedded in the body itself, just like the fenders and side skirts. At the rear, everything seems to have been produced in a single piece, with some cuts for the windows here and there.
Despite being an electric Chinese Mini Cooper, there could well be space under the hood for carrying luggage.
However, instead, there is only a tiny rear compartment accessible through a hinged hatch. It seems to fit only a few groceries, but with just 2 horsepower, it’s uncertain whether the subcompact hatch could even carry any extra weight beyond the occupants.
Other Copies From China In The Automotive Market
Besides this Chinese Mini Cooper subcompact hatch, Dongfeng catches attention for a surreal replica. The brand unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show a truck that closely resembles the Tesla Cybertruck.
The visual language is identical, with similar LED headlights, straight and sharp lines, a more inclined windshield, and even closed wheels have been copied. Interestingly, the “Pick-up Concept,” as it has been called, even has a camping tent built into the truck bed, just like Elon Musk’s pickup.
The concept even has some particularities; however, they are very minor details, such as the car’s profile, which is somewhat more conservative. The body, according to reports, also seems to be made of a simpler material that mimics the stainless steel appearance of the Cybertruck.
The doors are of the suicide type, and the steps are retractable to facilitate entry. The corners of the body are also less sharp than the original American model, also due to the material used.
