Obverse Design

The obverse of the coin features the effigy of Joaquim José da Silva Xavier, known as Tiradentes.

He was sentenced to hang for his participation in the Inconfidência Mineira. The image of Tiradentes is flanked by the inscription “Brazil” and by elements related to the Inconfidência Mineira, such as the triangle of the flag of the conspirators, superimposed by a bird that represents freedom and peace.

Reverse Design

The reverse of the coin displays, on the left, diagonal lines that highlight the face value, followed by the inscriptions “cents” and the year of minting.

Tiradentes

The 5-cent coins honor Joaquim José da Silva Xavier, Tiradentes.

He became a symbol of the Inconfidência Mineira, a movement that contributed to Brazil’s independence.

Captured and hanged by the Portuguese Crown on April 21, 1792, Tiradentes is remembered today, with his execution being a national holiday.

MBC

A coin classified as MBC, or Very Well Preserved, must have at least 70% of its original appearance.

The wear must be uniform, meaning the entire piece should show signs of use in a consistent manner.

Those classified as MBC are highly sought after, but their value is lower compared to those in better conditions.

Superb

These are the coins that continue to preserve at least 90% of the details from their original minting.

They show few signs of circulation and handling, making them more valuable than those classified as MBC.

In the collector market, a superb coin is already considered an item of intermediate value.

Uncirculated

Coins classified as Uncirculated are the most valuable.

They show no signs of wear or handling, maintaining all the minting details in perfect condition.

There are no signs of cleaning or use of chemicals, making them extremely rare and desired by collectors.
