Expansion of Shopee’s Logistics Network in the Metropolitan Region

The platform already operates distribution centers in Gravataí, in the Metropolitan Region, which was inaugurated in 2024, and in Caxias do Sul, operational since 2023, according to data released about the company’s operations in the state.
With the new structure, the company redistributes part of the flow of orders destined for Porto Alegre and the surrounding area, which tends to alleviate the load of other units and reorganize delivery routes.
The focus, according to institutional information, is to optimize regional logistics, especially in the section known as last mile, responsible for final delivery to the consumer.
There is still no public detailing on how the order volume will be divided among the units in Rio Grande do Sul nor about any changes in delivery times.
The company has also not indicated whether the Canoas center will operate with its own stock or only as a sorting and dispatch point.
Physical Structure of the Logistics Center in Canoas
The logistics center has been installed on a plot of 107,000 square meters, located in an industrial zone near Porto Alegre and with access to urban and metropolitan traffic routes.
On-site, there are seven industrial pavilions, as well as support areas and spaces designated for logistics operations.
Available information indicates variation in the numbers released regarding the constructed area.
Some records point to 38,400 square meters of built area, while other documents mention around 36,000 square meters, associated with the acquisition of an existing warehouse.
Shopee has not officially detailed what the final area considered in the operation is.
Despite this discrepancy, descriptions converge in indicating a large complex, with infrastructure geared towards receiving, sorting, and forwarding goods.
This type of center typically concentrates activities such as route sorting, load organization, and integration with partner carriers responsible for final distribution.
Address and Surroundings of the New Distribution Center
The distribution center is located at Avenida Guilherme Schell, number 130, in the Rio Branco neighborhood.
The area is close to the Cassol distribution center and near the territorial limit with Porto Alegre.
This location reduces logistical distances in relation to the capital.
The choice of an address in a consolidated industrial zone is associated with the availability of infrastructure for large-scale operations, such as heavy vehicle circulation and easy access to traffic corridors.
No information has been disclosed about operating hours, number of docks, or daily processing capacity of the unit.
Generation of Direct and Indirect Jobs in Canoas
The estimated generation of approximately 150 jobs, including direct and indirect employment, was disclosed by the mayor of Canoas, Airton José de Souza.
According to the city hall, the operation reinforces the economic activity of the municipality, which concentrates industrial, commercial, and service sectors.
The positions are expected to involve functions related to logistics routines as well as indirect activities, such as transportation, security, maintenance, and outsourced services.

Founded in 2015 in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, Shopee began its operations in Brazil in 2019.
Since then, the company has been expanding its logistics structure and currently reports having 15 distribution centers in the country.
The units are distributed across states such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Goiás, Bahia, Pernambuco, Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul.
In the South, the most recent activity was the inauguration of a center in Itajaí, Santa Catarina, referred to as the newest in the network in Brazil.
The expansion of the logistics network has been presented by the company as part of a strategy to meet the growth of e-commerce and reduce distances between operational centers and consumers.
