The Expectation Is That the Work on the Brazil-Paraguay Integration Bridge, Funded by the Itaipu Binacional Hydroelectric Plant, Will Be Completed by September 2022.
The main Brazilian support for the Brazil-Paraguay Integration Bridge was completed in October. At 190 meters high, the tower will be one of the two supports that will hold the 760-meter long bridge, near the Marco das Três Fronteiras, connecting Foz do Iguaçu (BR) to Presidente Franco (PY). On the Paraguayan side, the tower is expected to reach 175 meters in height by the end of the month.

Information comes from the bulletin released by the consortium responsible for the work. According to the bulletin, the Bridge reached nearly three-quarters of its completion, or 71.5%, in October. So far, about R$ 166 million have been invested, out of a total of R$ 323 million expected, funds paid by the Brazilian side of Itaipu Binacional. The expectation is that the work, which began in August 2019, will be completed by September 2022.
The new structure is under construction over the Paraná River, near the confluence with the Iguaçu River and the border with Argentina. The initiative is from the federal government, managed by the state government, through the Paraná Department of Highways (DER/PR). According to the bulletin, in October the positioning of the 4th metal segment took place in the free span of the bridge. A total of 37 segments will make up the central span by the end of the work. The Brazil-Paraguay Integration Bridge Will Be 760 Meters Long
When completed, the Brazil-Paraguay Integration Bridge will be 760 meters long and have a free span of 470 meters. There will be two single lanes, each 3.6 meters wide, a shoulder of 3 meters, and sidewalks of 1.70 meters on the sides.
The new bridge will allow heavy vehicles coming from Paraguay and Argentina to stop transiting through the center of Foz do Iguaçu, in addition to alleviating traffic on the International Friendship Bridge, which is currently the main link between Brazil and Paraguay.
Leste Perimeter Road Works, Connecting the New International Bridge to BR-277, Will Be Completed by Mid-2023
The Leste Perimeter Road works, a 15-kilometer highway connecting the new international bridge to BR-277, reached 4.33% completion in October. The investment made is approximately R$ 4.51 million. The expectation is that the Perimeter Road will be completed by mid-2023, at a total cost of R$ 336 million, also funded by the Brazilian side of Itaipu.
The construction of the bridge and the perimeter road is part of a series of projects funded by Itaipu Binacional and announced in the last two years. Among them are the renovation and expansion of the terminal and the landing and takeoff runway at Foz do Iguaçu International Airport, the duplication of BR-469 (Cataratas Highway), and improvements in energy transmission infrastructure. Investments in the region total over R$ 2.5 billion.
