If You Are a Fan of Monster And Robust Pickups, You Need to Know the International MXT. Created to Be an Extreme Military Vehicle, It Ended Up Gaining an Imposing Civil Version Full of Strength. With Aggressive Design and Absurd Power, the MXT Made Its Mark in the Market for a Short Period, But to This Day It Continues to Be Manufactured for Military Purposes.

In the 2000s, the manufacturer International decided to create a new military vehicle to replace the HMMWV (Humvee), which had already proven its success in the U.S. Army. Thus, the MXT was born – an acronym in English for “Extreme Military Truck.”

The design of the pickup stood out with its appearance similar to the brand’s medium trucks. Its robust cabin, heavy front grille, and striking optical set gave it an intimidating look. The vehicle was designed to be extremely versatile and fit in the cargo hold of a Lockheed C-130 Hercules military aircraft.

A Military Vehicle Rejected by the US, But Approved by the United Kingdom

The U.S. Armed Forces rejected the International MXT due to internal evaluation criteria and specific needs that the vehicle did not meet. While precise details about the reasons for the rejection are not widely available, it is common for factors such as performance, cost, compatibility with existing equipment, and operational requirements to influence such decisions.

While precise details about the reasons for the rejection are not widely available, it is common for factors such as performance, cost, compatibility with existing equipment, and operational requirements to influence such decisions.

Despite the innovative design, the U.S. Armed Forces did not approve the MXT as a replacement for the Humvee. However, the vehicle’s robustness and capability caught the attention of British forces, who saw it as an excellent option for military operations. As a result, the United Kingdom ordered hundreds of units, which ensured the start of its production in 2006.

The following year, the International MXT reached the civilian market, bringing all of its military DNA to drivers looking for a distinctive and extremely powerful vehicle.

The Civil Version of the International MXT

In 2007, the civil version of the International MXT was launched, but with a single configuration: crew cab. Just like the military version, the model used an International VT 365 engine, a 6.0-liter turbo diesel V8. This power plant delivered an impressive 300 horsepower and a gigantic torque of 73.3 kgfm, ensuring performance and brute strength for any challenge.

By 2008, the MXT received an upgrade in the engine, now featuring a 6.4-liter engine that raised the power to 325 horsepower and the torque to an impressive 78.8 kgfm. All this power was managed by a five-speed automatic transmission, ensuring a smooth ride even on rough terrain.

The Design and Components That Make the MXT a Beast

If the performance was already impressive, the looks were no different. The International MXT showcased an extremely robust design that turned heads wherever it went. Among its main highlights were:

  • 20-inch wheels with gigantic 40×13.5 tires, further enhancing its intimidating presence;
  • Gross weight of 7,257 kg, making it a true tank on wheels;
  • Reinforced structure, capable of tackling the toughest terrains with ease.

In addition to its imposing size, the MXT offered a level of resistance and durability rarely seen in a pickup, making it one of the most impressive models ever manufactured.

The End of Civil Production and the Military Continuation

Despite the impact it had on the market, the civil version of the International MXT had a short life. 2008 was the last year of production, leaving those looking for an extreme pickup for personal use in the lurch.

On the other hand, the military version of the MXT continues to be manufactured to this day by International, meeting the needs of British forces and other entities that require high-resistance vehicles.
