The New Solar Power Plant in Paraíba Will Have a Generation Capacity of 1.6 Gigawatts (GW), Capable of Supplying More Than 1.6 Million Households
Tomorrow (07), the governor of Paraíba João Azevêdo will authorize the installation of a photovoltaic solar power plant in the municipality of Santa Luzia, Sertão da Paraíba. According to the manager, the Santa Luzia Solar Complex, which will be operated by the Rio Alto group, will be located in the municipalities of Santa Luzia and São Mamede. More than R$ 2 billion will be invested, and over 1,500 direct and indirect jobs will be created with the project. Job Creation and Use of Renewable Sources
João states that the project will initially mobilize R$ 2 billion and generate more than 1,500 direct and indirect jobs. “We will be producing clean and renewable energy soon, so we can save water and generate even more jobs,” emphasizes the governor of Paraíba regarding the construction of the new photovoltaic solar power plant in the state.
The alternative of clean and renewable energy is the solution to the energy crisis that the country faces due to the drought. “Especially because the Brazilian energy matrix depends on hydroelectric plants, whose production decreases during dry periods. This causes frequent increases in electricity prices. Installing new solar energy parks and wind parks is what will save the country from the energy crisis we are currently experiencing,” he highlighted regarding the solar power plant.

About the Solar Power Plant
The Santa Luzia Solar Complex will consist of 28 photovoltaic solar plants with 58MWp, totaling 1.625GW of capacity, in an area of 1,700 hectares in the cities of Santa Luzia and São Mamede. According to the Rio Alto group, 1.3 million solar panels, 10.8 thousand trackers, and 3.7 thousand string inverters will be installed. The expectation is that the parks’ construction will be completed in January 2023.

The company Solar Newen Bahia Energia signed a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Economic Development (SDE) for the construction of a new photovoltaic power plant aimed at solar energy generation in the municipality of Barreiras. The company estimates an investment of R$ 1.080 billion for the project’s execution. The project will hire 990 workers for its construction and generate 135 jobs in the operational phase.
The Secretary of Economic Development, Nelson Leal, stated that “in July of this year, the Electric Energy Commercialization Chamber registered that Bahia ranked second among the states generating solar energy in the country. And this protocol that they signed is an indication that the sector is only expected to grow in the state,” he added.
According to the BahiadeValor website, solar energy generation projects in Bahia have already generated 13,000 direct jobs during the construction phase of those that are already in operation, and SDE estimates that an additional 47,400 direct jobs will be created during the construction phase of parks that are either under construction or yet to be started.
