Crown Embalagens, Ball, and Ardagh Group Will Invest R$ 3 Billion in Minas Gerais, in Their New Aluminum Can Factories
Abralatas – Brazilian Association of Can Manufacturers, announced that three projects from can manufacturers are underway for the installation of new factories within the state of Minas Gerais, strengthening the supply of aluminum cans in Brazil. The companies Crown Embalagens, Ball, and Ardagh Group will make investments of R$ 3 billion by the end of the 2020-2022 triennium in three new aluminum can production units, spread across the mining state. Crown Embalagens Unit in the State of Minas Gerais
The multinational Crown Embalagens, one of the most important manufacturers of aluminum cans for beer, soft drinks, juices, and teas in Brazil, announced investment in Minas Gerais for the installation of a new factory in 2022 for the production of 2.4 billion cans and promises to generate many jobs in the region.
The factory will be installed in Uberaba, through the political management of former mayor Paulo Piau and former economic development secretary José Renato Gomes, with investments exceeding R$ 650 million, accompanied by the prospect of generating more than 800 new direct jobs and another 140 indirect ones.

New Aluminum Can Factory from Ball Corporation in the State of Minas Gerais
The American company Ball Corporation will invest R$ 504 million in a new aluminum packaging factory in Frutal, Minas Gerais. With this investment, this factory will be the largest headquarters for aluminum beverage packaging. 100 new jobs may be created.
The company stated that, since May, the increase in consumption of canned beverages has caused its factories to fully utilize their resources to meet consumer demand. In this case, the new factory will keep pace with the packaging market, which has been expanding over the past three years.
The investment in Minas Gerais will be the 11th factory of the group in the country – the 9th dedicated to canned food production. Manaus and Recife also have two products specialized in lid production. In South America, Ball also maintains factories in Argentina, Chile, and Paraguay, with a 49% market share in the region.
New Contributions from Ardagh Group in Its New Factory
According to Abralatas, another company present in the Brazilian market that is expected to officially announce new investments is Ardagh Group. In a recent presentation to investors, the company listed a new factory project with two lines also in Minas Gerais, in addition to expansions in existing units in the Northeast region and in Jacareí, in the state of São Paulo.
According to the company, the project is part of a US$ 1.8 billion expansion program and is expected to be completed in the second half of 2022. The CEO of Ardagh Brazil, Jorge Bannitz, says that these investments will double capacity by 2024. Additionally, the new factory will be equipped with high-speed production lines, with a combined annual production of 3 billion cans.
