Gigantic Investment by Bracell Reinforces Leadership of Mato Grosso do Sul in the Pulp Sector and Promises to Transform the Local Economy
Bracell, a world leader in the production of dissolving pulp, announced an impressive investment of US$ 4 billion for the construction of a new pulp mill in Aqua Clara, Mato Grosso do Sul. This ambitious project was revealed during the Brazil-Indonesia Business Forum, an event parallel to the G20, held in Rio de Janeiro.
Economic Impact and Job Creation
With a production capacity of 2.8 million tons of pulp per year, the new plant is set to transform the local economy. The facility, which will be located just 15 kilometers from the urban perimeter, promises to generate around 10,000 jobs during the construction phase and more 3,000 permanent jobs when operational, according to portalcelulose.
Government Support and Incentives
The project has the support of the state government, with Governor Eduardo Riedel actively participating in the event alongside Secretaries Rodrigo Perez and Jaime Verruck. Riedel emphasized the importance of this investment for the state, highlighting the strategic role of Mato Grosso do Sul as a pulp hub. “Our part is to create a favorable business environment for companies in this sector to invest and thrive,” said the governor.

Jaime Verruck confirmed that the environmental licensing process for the new plant is already underway, with completion expected in February 2025. “Bracell already has a strong base in Aqua Clara and is expanding to Santa Rita do Pardo and Bataguassu, consolidating its presence with over two thousand jobs and a nursery that employs more than 250 women,” Verruck emphasized.

With the addition of this new plant, Mato Grosso do Sul is close to having six pulp mills in operation, solidifying its position as one of the largest pulp production hubs in Brazil. This investment not only reinforces the state’s leadership in the sector but also promises to provide a significant boost to the local economy, creating opportunities and fostering sustainable development.
