Meet The Routine Of Sailors On The Multipurpose Aircraft Carrier Atlantic, The Largest Warship In Latin America, Over 200 Meters Long, Belonging To The Brazilian Navy.

In this article, we will explore the daily routine on the Multipurpose Aircraft Carrier Atlantic, the largest warship in Latin America and an integral part of the Brazilian Navy. With an impressive length of 203 meters, this helicopter carrier can accommodate up to 18 aircraft in its hangar. Originally built in the 1990s, it was acquired by the Brazilian Government and officially integrated into the Brazilian Navy in 2017.

With a crew of 570 military personnel and able to accommodate 1,100 people, the day-to-day on the Multipurpose Aircraft Carrier Atlantic begins before sunrise. First, in the morning, we have the morning call and the first activity of the day is military physical training.

To respond to emergencies, damage control exercises and aeromedical evacuation drills are conducted. Regarding health, the largest warship in Latin America has one of the largest medical complexes among the ships of the Brazilian Navy. As an aircraft carrier, the largest warship in Latin America conducts air operations during its missions, capable of accommodating up to 26 aircraft.

Throughout its history, the largest warship in Latin America has participated in various operations, including humanitarian support. For the first time in Paraíba, the model was part of Operation “Aderex” 2024, taking place along the Brazilian coast for training of the Brazilian Navy.

During Aderex, the Multipurpose Aircraft Carrier Atlantic conducted various exercises in the maritime area between Recife-PE and Cabedelo-PB, such as aircraft landings on board, procedures for intercepting aircraft, combating various threats, cargo transfers between ships at sea, and deploying armaments.

Multipurpose Aircraft Carrier Atlantic Opened For Visitation

In a partnership between the Government of Paraíba, Brazilian Navy, Port of Cabedelo, and Port Captaincy of Paraíba, the largest warship in Latin America docked in March and was open to the public.

According to Ricardo Barbosa, president of the Paraíba Dock Company, at the time, it was a privilege to receive this important ship and accompany Admiral Reis Leite, commander of the 3rd Naval District, along with several authorities during the vessel’s arrival. The executive also highlighted that it was a privilege to host families, friends, and admirers of the port industry at the Port of Cabedelo.

During the visitation, a Solidarity Campaign was also promoted to collect non-perishable food items voluntarily, which were donated to philanthropic institutions in Paraíba society. According to Barbosa, in addition to inviting the public, he also took the opportunity to thank the Port Captain of Paraíba, Commander Ronaldo Miranda Júnior, and of course, Governor João Azevêdo, for the ongoing support shown for this operation, especially regarding the daily operations and progress of the port.

The Multipurpose Aircraft Carrier Atlantic is the largest warship in Latin America, belonging to the Brazilian Navy, but the title of the largest warship in the world goes to the USS Gerald R. Ford.

With a length of 333 meters and a width of 41 meters, the United States Navy ship can accommodate 4,500 people, in addition to 90 aircraft and helicopters. 

Traveling at just over 30 knots, the Gerald R. Ford is equipped with four MK-38 Mod 2 25 mm machine gun systems, two Rolling Airframe missile launchers, two MK-29 ESSM launchers, and three Homeport MK-15 20 mm Phalanx CIWS. Recently, the vessel was sent to the Eastern Mediterranean to support Israel against the Hamas group.

Apesar da minha ignorância sobre o assunto, acho que o navio está sendo sub-aproveirado. Aeronáutica, ou Marinha deveriam possuir pelo menos 4 aviões de decolage vertical para compor a força de ataque, e defesa da embarcação.
