After Many Speculations, Chevrolet Confirms the End of the Sale of the Cruze Sedan and Hatch in Brazil, Marking the End of an Era in the National Automotive Market.

After months of uncertainty and rumors, Chevrolet has officially confirmed that the Cruze sedan and hatch in Brazil will no longer be offered to consumers. The model, which had already ceased production at the end of last year, has now been completely removed from the Brazilian website of the brand, signaling the end of an important cycle in the national automotive market.

Until then, the Chevrolet Cruze sedan and hatch in Brazil was offered in several versions: the sedan was available in LT, Midnight, LTZ, and Premier configurations, with prices ranging from R$149,990 to R$179,660. The hatch, known as the Cruze Sport6, was sold solely in the RS version, costing R$169,670. The end of the Cruze offering in Brazil occurs at a time when the medium sedan and hatch market is increasingly restricted, especially with the growing consumer preference for SUVs.

2012 Chevrolet Cruze Sport6

The Chevrolet Cruze sedan and hatch in Brazil began its trajectory in 2011, when it was launched to replace the already outdated Vectra. Manufactured in São Caetano do Sul, São Paulo, the Cruze quickly gained popularity among Brazilians, especially for its 1.8 aspirated flex engine of up to 144hp and 18.9kgfm, available with both manual and automatic transmissions, both six-speed. In 2012, Chevrolet expanded its lineup with the Cruze Sport6, a hatchback that combined a sporty and youthful look with exclusive features, such as an electric sunroof and distinct bumpers.

Second Generation

In 2017, the second generation of the Chevrolet Cruze sedan and hatch in Brazil was launched, bringing significant changes to the technology package and mechanical setup. The 1.8 aspirated engine was replaced by a 1.4 turbo flex engine of up to 153hp and 24.5kgfm, along with an updated six-speed automatic transmission. This new generation met consumer expectations, offering improved performance and more technology on board.

Exit of the Chevrolet Cruze Sedan and Hatch in Brazil

The withdrawal of the Chevrolet Cruze sedan and hatch in Brazil reflects a clear change in Brazilian consumer preferences, who have increasingly preferred SUVs. Models that were once icons on the streets, such as Honda Civic and Volkswagen Jetta, now occupy specific niches, with more sophisticated versions and prices above R$240,000.

The Cruze, which had already been discontinued in 2019 in several countries such as the United States, Mexico, China, and South Korea, maintained its active production until the end of 2023 at the Santa Fe plant in Argentina. Now, the Argentine factory will focus on other projects, while continuing to provide replacement parts for the Cruze sedan and hatch models bidding farewell to the market.

With the end of the Chevrolet Cruze sedan and hatch in Brazil, there are few options left for consumers seeking “affordable” medium sedans and hatches. Now, only models like the BYD King, Toyota Corolla, and Nissan Sentra remain available in this segment, while Cruze fans must adapt to the new reality of the Brazilian automotive market.

What did you think of the Chevrolet Cruze sedan and hatch in Brazil? Do you have any special memories with this model? I would love to hear your stories and opinions about this car that has been present on Brazilian streets for so long!

Tenho um Cruze ano 2021 é ótimo. Todo mundo indo pro SUV. Eu gosto de sedan. Bora agora pra Mercedes ou BMW. São mais honestas com os consumidores.
