Platform Operated by SBM Offshore for Shell Transforms the Coast of the Municipality of Anchieta into Strategic Oil and Gas Pole

The FPSO Cidade de Espírito Santo is today one of the major drivers of energy production in Brazil. Located on the coast of ES, this floating platform produces up to 100 thousand barrels of oil per day and processes 5 million m³ of natural gas daily. A true technological colossus of the Brazilian offshore industry.

In addition to the impressive storage capacity, which reaches 1.6 million barrels, the unit is also recognized for its safety practices, sustainability, and operational efficiency.

FPSO Cidade de Espírito Santo Moves the Coast of the Municipality of Anchieta

Located in deep waters off the coast of the municipality of Anchieta, the FPSO Cidade de Espírito Santo operates in one of the most promising areas of the ES coast.

With a design engineered to withstand severe maritime conditions, the platform is equipped with high-tech systems for gas separation, compression, and reinjection, which contributes to increasing the recovery factor of the wells.

SBM Offshore Operation in Service of Shell

The unit is operated by SBM Offshore under contract with Shell, in a partnership model that reinforces the presence of private companies in the oil and gas sector. The operation of the FPSO Cidade de Espírito Santo demonstrates how lease and operate contracts can enhance productivity and ensure economic return with lower operational risks for the state-owned company.

SBM is responsible for asset management, maintaining the integrity of the plant, and adhering to strict environmental requirements, which is essential to ensure the continuity of operations in sensitive areas such as the Bahian coast.

Production, Safety, and Sustainability Side by Side

More than just extracting oil and gas, the FPSO Cidade de Espírito Santo is a model of balance between productivity and sustainability. The platform adopts technologies for emission control, effluent treatment, and continuous environmental monitoring to preserve the marine life of the region.

Safety practices also deserve emphasis. International protocols are applied daily, including emergency response systems, simulations with crew, and ongoing training. All of this contributes to maintaining operational excellence with very low incident rates.

Economic Impact and Energy Leadership of Brazil

The operation of the FPSO Cidade de Espírito Santo does not only produce barrels of oil. It also generates direct and indirect jobs, stimulates the local supply chain, and contributes to Brazil’s trade balance through the export of high-quality light oil.

By integrating technology, sustainability, and performance, this unit helps consolidate Brazil’s leadership in the global energy market, especially in the offshore segment in deep waters.
