The New Social Driver’s License Was Sanctioned in August and Is Already Active in 17 States, Offering Free Driver’s License for Low-Income Citizens; According to G1, the Measure Covers Exams, Classes, and Fees, Potentially Generating Savings of Up to R$ 3 Thousand Per Beneficiary and Strengthening Fiscal Citizenship in the Country.

The search for the first driver’s license has always represented a challenge for those with limited income. Now, with the new Social Driver’s License, low-income citizens can obtain a driver’s license for free, reducing barriers to access the document and ensuring mobility for work and study.

According to G1, the program is already operational in 17 states and covers almost the entire process, from medical and psychological exams to practical classes and issuing the document. The impact is direct: savings that can reach R$ 3 thousand per person, while expanding opportunities for social and professional inclusion.

What the New Social Driver’s License Covers

The program covers all costs related to obtaining the first driver’s license, including medical and psychological exams, theoretical and practical classes, as well as test and issuance fees.

According to G1, even a second attempt in case of failure is included.

The only expense not covered is the fee to retake the test from the third attempt onwards.

Even so, the package ensures that the process is practically cost-free for the beneficiaries, democratizing access to the driver’s license.

Who Is Eligible and How to Register

The new Social Driver’s License is aimed at people registered in the Cadastro Único (Single Registry) with an income of up to half a minimum wage per person.

The applicant must be 18 years or older and apply for the first driver’s license.

The registration must be done in person at a CRAS office or another location designated by the city hall.

After registering in the Cadastro Único, the interested party must monitor the official websites of the state Detrans, where registrations and specific rules for each region are announced.

Where the Program Is Already Active

According to the survey by G1, the Social Driver’s License is already in effect in states such as Amazonas, Acre, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Rio Grande do Sul, Rondônia, Roraima, Ceará, Paraíba, and Mato Grosso do Sul, among others, totaling 17 federative units.

Each state defines the number of vacancies, deadlines, and additional criteria, making it essential for interested individuals to regularly consult the information disclosed by the local Detran.

Tocantins and Amapá, for example, have already sanctioned their laws but have not yet started the registration phase.

Included Categories and Professional Use

The new Social Driver’s License includes categories A, B, and AB, which allow driving motorcycles, cars, and light vehicles.

This means that, in addition to facilitating personal mobility, it can also pave the way for professional activities, such as app drivers or delivery workers.

For those wishing to operate in higher categories (C, D, or E), they will need to cover the category change costs themselves, including the mandatory toxicological exam.

Still, the initial free license already represents a significant advancement for entry into the job market.

Social and Economic Impacts

The sanctioning of the new Social Driver’s License has a dual effect: on one hand, it guarantees citizenship and inclusion for people who could not previously afford the costs of obtaining a driver’s license; on the other hand, it uses resources from traffic fines to fund the program, giving a new destination to this money.

In practice, the measure increases access to the most commonly used official document by Brazilians, strengthens enforcement, and contributes to the formalization of workers in sectors that require a license.

With the new Social Driver’s License, Brazil takes an important step towards reducing inequalities in access to a driver’s license.

The program is already present in 17 states and promises to benefit thousands of people, ensuring more mobility, job opportunities, and social inclusion.

And you? Do you believe that the new Social Driver’s License will really make life easier for those who need it most, or do you fear that the supply of vacancies will be insufficient? Leave your opinion in the comments — your experience can help evaluate the real impact of the program.
