Continuous Energy Monitoring Also Ensures More Efficient, Safe, and Cost-Effective Energy Management

By Rodrigo Pereira, Account Manager at Fluke Brazil in the Energy Segment– The Brazilian industry is one of the largest consumers of electric energy today, as indicated by data from the EPE (Energy Research Company), which reveals that this market consumes 36% of the energy available for all sectors in the country. However, to minimize this scenario, the industry has been investing in energy efficiency projects for some time, and as a result of such implementations, calculations made by EPE indicate that by 2030, energy efficiency gains will reduce electricity consumption in the sector by approximately 6%.

Considering this projection and the importance of increasingly investing in energy quality and energy efficiency, it is essential to monitor the operational health of all components of a facility to avoid unexpected failures and downtime of equipment. In this sense, energy monitoring emerges as a great ally to maintenance teams, as even the smallest failure or maintenance needed will not go unnoticed, helping to reduce high electricity consumption.

Benefits of Energy Monitoring

The energy monitoring itself is already advantageous for industries; however, if the technician is not in the right place at the right time, they may not detect a specific failure that a piece of equipment has been presenting. Therefore, continuous monitoring and recording of electric energy offers a series of advantages that enable the intelligent use of data for more efficient management of industrial machines. One of its main benefits is real-time access to data on consumption, demand, and power factor of the monitored units, which facilitates the interpretation of information and the final decision-making process.

The monitoring carried out through equipment with connectivity and data recording autonomy also enables the identification of potential waste, indicates exactly when a power drop occurs, and reduces preventive maintenance or emergency repair activities, thereby reducing the company’s expenses.

Increase in Productivity

Continuous energy monitoring also ensures more efficient, safe, and cost-effective energy management, in addition to allowing maintenance technicians to know every detail of operations and understand the entire energy consumption of the industry they work in. With this type of control, it is possible to identify, for example, reactive energy and even avoid fines. When energy monitoring is done continuously and systematically, decision-making becomes more secure towards energy efficiency and cost reduction, in addition to allowing the recording and processing of consumption data in real-time.

Currently, there are various devices that remotely monitor energy consumption. These devices observe voltage, current, and frequency and are capable of projecting these measurements onto a smart device, such as a mobile phone, tablet, or computer. With guaranteed monitoring, equipment failures are minimized, unexpected downtime becomes monitored and avoided, and teams are freed up for more strategic activities, helping to increase the productivity of the industry.

Thus, measuring energy consumption while continuously tracking data aimed at the final result is the key factor for companies that aim to achieve the most advanced levels of management. Continuous energy monitoring increasingly proves to be the best solution for industries investing in energy efficiency, productivity, and innovation, as it provides managers with the most valuable work element of today’s times: quality data.
