Copergás, Whose Shareholders Include the Government of Pernambuco, Petrobras, and Mitsui, Will Invest in a Series of Natural Gas Projects
The Pernambuco Gas Company (Copergás) announced that it plans to invest R$ 370.4 million in the state of Pernambuco from 2021 to 2025. The investment to be made by Copergás is part of its long-term strategy plan (ELP), where the company’s resources, which have as shareholders the state government, Petrobras, and Mitsui, will be allocated to a series of projects that meet the needs of expanding the distribution network to the interior and Metropolitan Region.

Investments Made by Copergás in Pernambuco
The Pernambuco Gas Company expects that the investments to be made will amount to R$ 66.8 million this year, R$ 71.5 million next year, R$ 73.83 million in 2023, R$ 77.63 million in 2024, and R$ 80.64 million in 2025, totaling R$ 370.4 million in the state of Pernambuco.
Among the company’s projects, which has Petrobras as a shareholder, are the completion of the Camaragibe-Carpina gas pipeline, the expansion in Caruaru, and the pioneering project in the North-Northeast in Petrolina and Garanhuns, located respectively in the Sertão and Agreste regions of the state. The two municipalities mentioned last will be served through a local network, transporting liquefied natural gas (LNG) via road modal.

The investments to be made by the Gas Company of the state of Pernambuco will also include an increase in the number of customers in the residential, commercial, industrial, and vehicular segments. According to André Campos, president of Copergás, a company that also has Petrobras as a partner, it is prepared for the future challenges of the natural gas market, maintaining its commitment to acting for the development of the state of Pernambuco.
Revenue and Increase in the Number of Customers of the Gas Company of the State of Pernambuco
Last year, the Gas Company of the State of Pernambuco reported a net profit of R$ 75.8 million and revenue of R$ 1.39 billion; the investment in 2020 was R$ 56 million, a volume 51% higher than recorded in 2019. The Copergás pipeline network had a expansion of 88.14 km, a 124% increase compared to the average of the last 5 years. In total, the network reached the end of 2020 with 932 km in length, and the goal is to build another 117 km this year.
Another notable factor in 2020 was the growth in the number of customers, which rose from 44,672 in 2019 to 52,244 in 2020 (an increase of 17%). In the industrial segment (which accounts for the largest consumption of natural gas in Pernambuco), ten new industries were incorporated into the Copergás distribution network. Until then, the highest number of industries connected to Copergás in a year was six, in 2010.
