The New Prices Of Natural Gas Passed On By Petrobras Will Take Effect On May 1st. Every Three Months The Contracts Will Have Adjustments
Petrobras informed last Monday (5) that it will increase the selling price of natural gas to distributors starting on May 1st. Compared to the previous quarter, the increase was 39%. When calculated in US$/MMBtu, the increase will be 32%. Petrobras stated in a report that this change is due to the application of the supply contract formula, which links the price to the price of oil and the exchange rate.
Increase In The Price Of Natural Gas From Petrobras
Unlike the prices of other fuels, such as gasoline, diesel, and liquefied petroleum gas, the price of natural gas is updated every three months. According to the state-owned company, oil increased by 38% from January to March, which are the reference months for the current adjustments.
Petrobras reported that the final price of natural gas supplied to the consumer depends not only on the selling price of the company but also on the profits of the distributors and GNV resale stations, as well as federal and state taxes.

Transfer Of Natural Gas Prices
The transfer of natural gas prices to consumers depends on the legislation of each state. In some cases, the contract provides for automatic adjustments. In others, the adjustments are made in tariff revisions approved by local regulatory agencies.
In any case, it is expected that natural gas will have a significant impact on the inflation rate in May. So far, Petrobras has adjusted its gasoline by 46.2% this year, diesel by 41.6%, and the gas cylinder by 17%.
