Discover How CTG Brazil’s Largest Wind Project Is Transforming the Seridó Region with Clean Energy and Regional Development
The Wind Complex Serra da Palmeira, located in the Seridó region of Paraíba, represents a significant advancement in the Brazilian energy matrix. With full operation expected by the end of 2025, CTG Brazil’s project encompasses the municipalities of Picuí, Nova Palmeira, Pedra Lavrada, São Vicente do Seridó, and Baraúna. With 108 wind turbines distributed across 23 wind farms, the complex will have an installed capacity of 648 megawatts (MW), sufficient to power approximately 1.7 million homes.
Complex Logistics and Cutting-Edge Technology
The construction of the complex, which began in October 2023, involved significant logistical challenges. In April 2025, a 250-ton transformer, essential for operation, was transported from the Port of Suape in Pernambuco to the Serra da Palmeira Collector Substation in Nova Palmeira (PB). The operation lasted about 20 days and covered more than 400 kilometers, involving an escort from the Federal Highway Police and dozens of professionals. Each wind turbine has an individual transformer that steps up the voltage to 34,500 volts. The energy is then conducted to the substation, where two transformers perform the final conversion to 500,000 volts, compatible with the national transmission system. This process minimizes electrical losses and ensures efficiency in energy distribution.

Socioeconomic Impact and Regional Development
The project has generated positive impacts on the local economy. It is estimated that up to 1,200 direct jobs will be created during the 30 months of construction, benefiting residents from the five municipalities involved. Companies have established partnerships with SEBRAE, SENAI, and IFPB to train the local workforce and strengthen the supply and service chain. Additionally, CTG Brazil has implemented a local development plan, including social projects focused on education, culture, leisure, sports, and assistance to vulnerable groups. These initiatives have directly benefited residents in the areas involved, expanding the positive impact of the wind complex beyond the energy aspect.

Contribution to the National Energy Matrix
The Wind Complex Serra da Palmeira will generate energy and integrate it into the National Interconnected System, benefiting consumers in various regions of Brazil. With the generation of completely clean and renewable energy, the complex helps reduce emissions and, therefore, promotes the country’s sustainable goals. In addition, the 120-meter towers and 84-meter blades have been designed to capture more wind, generating less noise and further optimizing energy efficiency. This cutting-edge technology allows for optimized energy production with fewer units and a reduced environmental impact.
Future Perspectives and Commitment to Sustainability
The Wind Complex Serra da Palmeira positions Paraíba as a strategic hub for renewable energy production in Brazil. CTG Brazil, a subsidiary of the Chinese company China Three Gorges, reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and regional development through this venture. The expectation is that the complex will contribute to the national energy matrix as well as promote social inclusion and consequently stimulate local economic growth. With investments of R$ 3.7 billion, the Wind Complex Serra da Palmeira further proves that sustainable projects truly transform realities. Thus, it is possible to unite technological innovation and social responsibility, promoting clean and continuous development.
