According to an article published by Cenário Energia on March 2, the measure allows three of the company’s projects to advance in the issuance and commercialization of carbon credits in the voluntary market, expanding the monetization of renewable assets in Brazil.

The Echo 2 and Echo 3 complexes were classified with a Diamond seal, the highest classification of the GCC standard. The Echo 4 received a Platinum seal, the second highest classification awarded by the entity. The registration validates the methodologies for calculating avoided emissions, confirms criteria such as additionality and independent verification, and endorses the projects’ contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The complex has an installed capacity of 132.5 MW and consists of 64 wind turbines. According to technical estimates recorded in the certification process, the project has the potential to avoid approximately 199,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO₂e) per year. This volume represents a significant contribution to mitigating emissions in the electricity sector.

Also classified with a Diamond seal, Echo 3 has been operating since 2020 in Serra do Mel, also in Rio Grande do Norte. The asset has an installed capacity of 100.8 MW and 24 wind turbines. The estimated potential annual reduction is about 156,000 tons of CO₂ equivalent.

The seals granted by the Global Carbon Council confirm that the emission reductions from these enterprises follow recognized and validated methodologies, allowing conversion into tradable carbon credits in the voluntary market.

Wind Complexes Echo 4 Earns Platinum Seal and Strengthens Sustainable Portfolio

The Echo 4 complex received a Platinum seal, the second highest classification of the GCC standard. The project has been operating since 2017 and includes wind farms in the municipalities of Cerro Corá, Jardim de Angicos, Pedra Preta, and João Câmara, all in Rio Grande do Norte.

With an installed capacity of 85.4 MW and 41 wind turbines, the project has an estimated potential to avoid about 148,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year. As with the other assets, the calculation has been subjected to technical validation criteria.

Obtaining this seal strengthens the company’s portfolio of certified assets. In addition to renewable energy generation, the complex more actively integrates the strategy of generating carbon credits, expanding the possibilities for the company’s entry into the global market.
