The Ministry of Education – MEC, announced that there is a great possibility of a competition occurring this year in 2023. The last MEC competition took place almost 15 years ago.
The general information about the MEC public competition was released by O Globo newspaper. According to the newspaper, the MEC competition in question is still being analyzed and will possibly be part of the first packages of new selections for competitions that should be authorized in the coming months by the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services.
Even though the possibility of a new MEC public competition has been announced, the number of vacancies and positions to be filled has not been specified.

The Notice for The New MEC Public Competition May Be Launched Still In 2023. Vacancies And Positions Have Not Yet Been Released, But The Expectation Is High
The Ministry of Education – MEC also disclosed some information about the current need for 33,810 servers. Out of 34,461 vacancies in the MEC, only about 651 job positions are occupied, which is not even half of the total available vacancies.
In the first week of April, the Minister of Management and Innovation in Public Services, Esther Dweck, informed that by the end of 2023 at least three packages of new federal competitions should be authorized by the ministry, considering that the release of the approvals occurred on the 10th of this month.
On April 10, in addition to the release of the approvals, the first selection was also officially announced, approving 814 vacancies in the Ministry of Science, Technology and Communication, MCTI. Besides the MEC competition that is awaiting approval and the already official MCTI competition, the release of notices for competitions in environmental agencies is also anticipated, such as the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama), the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), and also in the Ministry of the Environment, as well as competitions to work in the Federal Revenue.
Despite the possibility of a public competition, yesterday (24), Ibama announced over 1,000 temporary vacancies for various states in Brazil, as a way to address the urgency related to forest fires and deforestation.
Check How The Last MEC Public Competition Was
Held in 2009, the last MEC competition offered about 265 vacancies for the administrative agent position. At the time, Cespe/UnB, now Cebraspe, was the organizing body of the competition. Information about the MEC public competition was published in the Official Gazette of the Union – DOU, on March 2, 2009.
According to information from that time, the remuneration was R$ 1,901.47 and the registration fee for the competition was R$ 39.50.
The vacancies for administrative agent had the following assignments:
- Perform medium-level activities of a repetitive nature related to the preparation of simple arithmetic and statistical calculations, seeking data and information, involving the need for contact with interested parties and the general public, and covering: execution, under permanent supervision and direct technical and administrative guidance, of routine administrative tasks related to personnel, budget, and materials;
- Auxiliary work in classification, coding, cataloging, and archiving of papers and documents;
- Auxiliary work in public service and in assisting clientele interested in matters related to administrative, bureaucratic, and hospital units.

The objective test contained 70 questions on Basic Knowledge and 50 questions on Specific Knowledge, totaling 120 objective questions. The Basic Knowledge questions were divided among Portuguese Language, Current Events (of that time), and Basic Notions of Informatics.
