The Technology of the People Mover Initiative Will Be Fully Brazilian and Led by the Company Marcopolo, Which Joined the Consortium for the Development of Vehicles Responsible for Passenger Transport at Guarulhos Airport

Last Monday (05/02), a contract was signed between the AEROGRU Consortium and the company Marcopolo for the supply of the vehicles that will be part of the People Mover technology at Guarulhos International Airport. Thus, the company Marcopolo will lead the vehicles that will transport passengers at the location, with cutting-edge and fully Brazilian technology to ensure even more efficiency and speed in the process.

Passenger Transport at Guarulhos Airport Through People Mover Vehicles Will Be Led by Marcopolo and the AEROGRU Consortium

The signing of the contract between the AEROGRU consortium and the company Marcopolo for the development of vehicles that will be part of the People Mover technology at Guarulhos Airport was essential for accelerating the project. Thus, the platform will connect passenger terminals to the 13-Jade Line station of the São Paulo Metropolitan Train Company (CPTM), and will feature Brazilian technology led by Marcopolo, which will be responsible for manufacturing the transport model used in the new system.

Also known as Automated People Mover (APM), the passenger transport technology at Guarulhos Airport is being enabled by the Federal Government and will have an investment of R$ 271.7 million by the GRU Airport concessionaire, a value that was originally intended to be used for revenue by the Union. This system adopted at Guarulhos Airport is based on Aeromovel, similar to those successfully used in international airports such as those in Atlanta, Chicago, New York, and San Francisco in the United States, which ensure much more efficiency in this transport.

Thus, the consortium Aerom, HTB, FBS, and TSINFRA, along with their strategic partners Schneider Electric, Minerbo Fuchs, Certifer, and Marcopolo Rail, participated in the consortium and the signing of the contract with Marcopolo. In this regard, the national civil aviation secretary, Ronei Glanzmann, celebrated the arrival of the technology in Brazil and the importance of the system for passenger transport within the airport: “[The technology] is being implemented worldwide, and now we will also have it here in Brazil. The vehicles are very beautiful, very comfortable, and very safe. With the People Mover, Guarulhos Airport in São Paulo will serve as an example for the entire world.”

People Mover Features 100% Automated Technology and Will Be Able to Transport 2,000 Passengers Per Hour at Guarulhos Airport

The project by the AEROGRU consortium and Marcopolo will be essential for bringing even more modernization and technology to Guarulhos Airport in the coming years. Thus, the People Mover will have the capacity to transport 2,000 users per hour in each direction, and the travel and waiting time will be 6 minutes. This technology will bring much more efficiency, speed, and comfort to passengers who need transport between terminals.

Furthermore, the system will also bring a number of benefits for the environment, as it will not emit any polluting gases, as well as providing a reduction in the number of vehicles circulating in the vicinity of the airport and, consequently, decreasing CO2 emissions and congestion in the area. This is one of the main focuses of Marcopolo and the AEROGRU consortium for the system, as sustainability is an increasingly present discussion in the national market.

Lastly, the Government of the State of São Paulo also announced that the service will be free, operating 24 hours a day, offering Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and informational panels about the flights that will be arriving at the location on that day, to ensure more comfort and accessibility for passengers.
