The cost of construction in Paraíba was the second highest in the Northeast in January 2020, according to the National Construction Index (Sinapi), released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) this Friday (7). The state saw an increase of 0.72% compared to December 2019.

In the state, the average cost of the square meter was R$ 1,109.48, only lower than that recorded in the state of Maranhão, at R$ 1,121.31. In December, the value had been R$ 1,101.57. Job openings in the industry are being offered daily by large companies.

Survey Results
The survey also indicated that the average cost of labor increased by more than R$ 10 from one month to another, rising from R$ 476.86 in December to R$ 487.98 in January.
The variation of 0.72% compared to December was also above the Northeast average of 0.46% and Brazil’s average of 0.30%. The average cost per square meter in the country was R$ 1,162.24, of which R$ 609.39 corresponded to material expenses and R$ 552.85 to labor costs. It appears that by mid-2020, around 50,000 job openings may be offered by various companies in the construction niche.
