With Few Charging Points on the Highways of Paraná, Copel Partnered with Move to Create a New Supply Network That Can Meet the High Number of Electric Cars in the Paraná Region.

On last Wednesday, the 27th, Copel announced its intention to increase the number of charging points so that electric car drivers can recharge their vehicles on various highways in Paraná. About four of the new charging points, with 2 spots each, will be installed in the coming weeks, located on BR-376, which runs between Londrina and Curitiba.

Electric Car Charging Points in Paraná

The points will be located at Posto Juninho in Ponta Grossa, at the Pão de Queijo Stop in Tibagi, at Parada Soledade 2 in Imbaú, and finally, at Restaurant Elim in Mauá da Serra. There will also be a charging point at Posto Monte Carlo 2, located on BR-376 in Tijucas do Sul, which will be inaugurated to serve electric car drivers electric cars traveling between Curitiba and Joinville in Santa Catarina.

In addition to these Copel charging points, other points will be installed along BR-277, located in Paranaguá, Curitiba, Palmeira, Fernandes Pinheiro, Irati, Prudentópolis, Candói, Laranjeiras do Sul, Ibema, Cascavel, Matelândia, and Foz do Iguaçu.

System Unification May Facilitate the Integration of All Data from Different Suppliers

The Copel charging points located on BR-277 come from different suppliers, who manufacture various other models. Therefore, Move presented Copel with a system unification plan, where it will be possible to integrate data from all distributors into one platform.

The new interaction system will also be responsible for providing information about the available chargers, the amount of energy supplied by each of the charging points, and even the amount of carbon dioxide, the CO2, that should be avoided when using electric energy instead of fossil fuels. In addition to the points offering this information, drivers and others will be able to access all this data for free through the Easy Charging Station app, which is available for both Android and iOS.

Another advantage of increasing the number of charging points for electric cars in Paraná is that it helps to minimize the sector’s challenges, which has already faced significant issues due to the lack of suitable locations for recharging electric cars and other electrified vehicles. Yet, despite the difficulties, the sector has grown considerably in recent years and is in a phase of expansion.

In Paraná alone, the sector has grown by about 568%, becoming the 4th state with the highest number of electric cars in Brazil. In Curitiba, for instance, by 2021, around 1,873 new electric cars were registered, causing Paraná to rise in the ranking of Brazilian cities with the most electrified vehicles.

Copel Partners with Move to Increase the Number of Charging Points

The Copel electrovia inaugurated in 2018 currently has 12 fast charging points over about 730 km, connecting the far east to the far west of Paraná.

With this new expansion project, an additional 11 charging points will be installed, bringing the total to 23 points available to electric car drivers and other electrified vehicles. This increase in charging points will also serve as a test that Copel is developing in partnership with the Brazilian startup Move, a company specialized in technology solutions for the management and control of electric car charging.

According to Copel, in addition to expanding the number of charging stations in its electrovia, the project also aims to create technological integration of all charging stations into a single command and monitoring system.
