Discover How Capitólio (MG) Transformed From a Nearly Abandoned Town Into a Mineral Paradise That Attracts Millionaires With Its Luxury Tourism and Exuberant Nature. Discover the Attractions That Make This Destination One of the Most Valued in the Interior of Minas Gerais
Capitólio (MG), once known as a quiet town in the interior of Minas Gerais, is currently undergoing an impressive transformation. With its exuberant nature, the municipality has emerged as a true mineral paradise, attracting the attention of Brazilian and foreign tourists, including millionaires who have found exclusivity and luxury amidst nature. After decades of a modest economy based on small agricultural activities, Capitólio underwent a restructuring process driven by tourism. The combination of natural attractions, private investments, and effective public policies has propelled the city from anonymity to prominence in national tourism.
Today, it’s hard to believe that this mine postcard was once seen as a “ghost town”. Now, with sophisticated resorts, high-end marinas, and luxury eco-experiences, the municipality has become a sought-after destination for those seeking exclusivity, comfort, and direct contact with nature.
Structured Tourism Transforms the Mineral Paradise Into a National Reference
One of Capitólio’s main differentiators lies in how tourism has been planned and implemented. Local management, along with the state government, adopted strategic measures to ensure that growth does not compromise environmental sustainability.

Why is the Danakil Desert so dangerous? It has unstable terrain and how extreme temperatures and toxic gases turn the region into one of the most hostile environments on Earth.
Regulating boat tours, for example, was an important measure. The vessels must follow strict rules to prevent the degradation of the shores of Lake Furnas and preserve the canyons, natural postcards of the city.
In addition, initiatives such as the mandatory registration of tourism agencies and intensive monitoring of visitation areas ensure more safety and organization for residents and visitors. This tourism management model, which combines environmental preservation with the offer of quality services, has been praised by industry experts and replicated by other Brazilian cities.
Capitólio (MG): City Destination for Millionaires and Synonym for Luxury
In recent years, Capitólio has begun attracting an increasingly selective audience. Investors have seen the potential of the place and started developing high-end tourism ventures. Resorts with their own marinas, helipads, spas, beach clubs, water parks, and timeshare systems have become part of the city’s landscape.
The presence of high-net-worth tourists has boosted not only luxury hospitality but also the gastronomic, real estate, and nautical sectors. Capitólio has established itself as a true destination for millionaires, offering personalized experiences, security, and exclusivity.
Large-scale nautical events, such as yacht shows and jet ski gatherings, also contribute to the municipality’s visibility. These events generate millions of reais and further enhance Capitólio’s image as a hub for luxury tourism in Minas Gerais.
Sophisticated Experiences Amidst Preserved Nature
A fundamental part of Capitólio’s (MG) attractiveness lies in the unique experience of immersion in untouched natural landscapes. Lake Furnas, considered the “sea of Minas”, the canyons up to 20 meters high, crystal-clear waterfalls, and ecological trails offer a rare setting in Brazil.
Tourists have the option to take private boat tours with specialized guides, exclusive trails that lead to secret viewpoints, and even gastronomic experiences in remote natural areas. It’s the perfect combination of comfort, adventure, and contemplation.
Local businesses also adopt sustainable practices such as water reuse, solar energy generation, and controlled use of natural resources. Environmental preservation has become a priority, ensuring that the mineral paradise continues to be admired by future generations.
The Economic and Social Impact of Tourism in Capitólio (MG)
The growth of Capitólio has generated positive impacts not only in tourism but also in the local economy. According to data from the State Secretary of Culture and Tourism of Minas Gerais, the state recorded 32 million visitors in 2024, with 61% concentrated in interior cities. Capitólio is among the highlights of this statistic.
Moreover, Minas Gerais created over 13,000 formal jobs in the tourism sector between April 2024 and March 2025. Capitólio, with its accelerated growth rate, directly contributed to these numbers.
Revenue from the ICMS Tourism has also been significant. In 2024, over R$ 80 million was invested in infrastructure, training, and cultural actions in hundreds of Minas Gerais municipalities, with Capitólio among the beneficiaries.
This set of public and private investments has boosted not only the quality of life in the area but also increased property values and the visibility of the municipality throughout the country.
Tourism as a Vector of Identity and Innovation in the Mineral Paradise
The case of Capitólio reveals how tourism can be more than an economic activity: it can be a vector of identity, innovation, and belonging. From ghost town to destination for millionaires, this mining city has reinvented itself without giving up its culture, hospitality, and especially, its respect for nature.
Today, residents take pride in the city’s rebirth. The commerce has been revitalized, new opportunities have arisen for young entrepreneurs, and Capitólio’s image as a destination of excellence has consolidated both within and outside Brazil.
The combination of efficient public management, sustainable investments, and community engagement has been essential for this transformation. The model adopted by Capitólio can serve as a reference for dozens of Brazilian municipalities that see tourism as a solid alternative for development.
Why Capitólio (MG) Is the New Symbol of Luxury Tourism and Exclusivity in Brazil
Capitólio (MG) is now synonymous with reinvention. The city has managed to explore its greatest asset — nature — in a conscious and innovative manner. Tourism has been the key to breaking free from obscurity and establishing itself as one of Brazil’s main destinations for those seeking quality, comfort, and sustainability.
The city fits perfectly into the concept of a mineral paradise, offering visitors a high-standard experience in one of the country’s most stunning natural settings. More than just a simple tourist attraction, Capitólio is a real example of how it is possible to grow while preserving, generate income responsibly, and create opportunities where there was once only stagnation.
For those who wish to experience a Brazil that combines preserved nature, luxury, and authenticity, Capitólio is the ideal destination. And for those studying tourism, it is also a true lesson in planning and regional development.
