Currently, drilling in the region is happening only 16 meters away from this subterranean treasure. And guess what: it is estimated that there are about 10.5 billion gallons of oil down there, valued at an astonishing US$ 18.6 billion! For a state that already puts more than 1.2 million barrels on the market daily, this discovery could catapult North Dakota to another level.
The Bakken Oil System and Its Weight in Production
The Three Forks reservoir is part of the famous Bakken Oil System, one of the largest sources of oil in the U.S., spanning Montana and North Dakota. This system already pours an impressive 474.5 million barrels into the market annually, but experts believe there is still much more to be explored.

Geologists like Tim Nesheim state that digging deeper may reveal even more reserves. Recent studies analyzed 593 horizontal wells in 51 drilling areas and indicated that 17 of these regions saw a significant increase in production after the development of Three Forks.
