Currently, there are over 360 wells operating in the central formation of Three Forks, which have extracted 92 million barrels of oil since 2013. But new studies indicate a dramatic increase in drilling. If everything goes as planned, another 600 wells will be added, which could result in an increase of 258 million barrels in total production.
Geologists like Tim Nesheim state that digging deeper may reveal even more reserves. Recent studies analyzed 593 horizontal wells in 51 drilling areas and indicated that 17 of these regions saw a significant increase in production after the development of Three Forks.
