Petrobras Aims to Raise Up to US$ 35 Billion Through the Sale of Oil Fields and Other Assets in Its Billion-Dollar Divestment Plan

Petrobras informed that it intends to raise between US$ 25 billion and US$ 35 billion from the sale of assets in its divestment plan, which means that the oil production of the state-owned company may remain practically at the same level between 2021 and 2025. The data was provided by Petrobras during a virtual event for the company’s investors on this Monday (30/11).

Petrobras plans to divest from the oil fields of Albacora, Albacora Leste, Frade, half of the Marlin cluster, and from assets onshore and in shallow waters. The company will sell 209 fields on land or in shallow waters, assets in Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, and the United States, and the Marlim Cluster (50%).

Not considering the divestments, the oil production for the state-owned company is expected to be 2.75 million barrels per day. This number could rise to 3.3 million in five years.

Taking into account the effects of divestments, Petrobras’s total production will reach 2.7 million barrels per day in 2025.

According to Carlos Alberto Oliveira, director of exploration and production at the oil company, this difference of 600,000 barrels of oil is due to the divestments in onshore and shallow water fields, along with the divestments from Albacora and the Marlin cluster.

“After 2025, we could expect production growth, even with divestments, due to the production growth in Búzios, where up to seven new systems are being planned or contracted starting in 2024,” Oliveira said.

The executive reported that next year the forecast of 2.72 million barrels of oil included in the Business Plan 2021-2025 is lower compared to the previous plan (2.82 million barrels per day after divestments). The estimate for 2021 could vary by 4% up or down due to uncertainties still related to the impact of the pandemic on the economy.
