In Partnership With Detran CE, the Government of Ceará Is Making 25,000 Slots Available for a Program That Aims to Provide Free Driver’s Licenses to Residents of the Interior and the Capital
The Government of the State of Ceará, in partnership with Detran, announced on the morning of this Tuesday (22) 25,000 slots for the program Popular Driver’s License 2022. The Ceará government program aims to provide free driver’s licenses to residents, and the announcement was made at an event attended by Governor Camilo Santana. To hold certain jobs in the labor market, it is necessary to have a national driver’s license (CNH). The document also helps those who want to secure extra income, as there is the possibility of working with deliveries or passenger transport through apps.
Learn How the Ceará Government’s Free Driver’s License Program Will Work
According to the State Governor, 25,000 slots for free driver’s licenses will be offered across 184 municipalities in Ceará by the end of 2022. Of this total, 20,000 will be aimed at the interior of the State and the remaining slots for residents of the capital.
The number of opportunities provided will depend on the population size of each municipality. In the last two phases of the program, Detran of Ceará granted 50,000 documents with no fees to drivers. However, the beneficiaries were individuals receiving assistance through the Auxílio Brasil program. The free driver’s license program was established in 2009 and facilitates the issuance of the first National Driver’s License in categories A, for riding a motorcycle, or B, for driving cars. The initiative is managed by the DETRAN of the State.

The aim of the Ceará government’s program is to make traffic safer and facilitate people’s entry into the job market. Those who receive the free driver’s license in category A, for example, will also receive a helmet to ride their motorcycle. Over ten years, the program in partnership with Detran has already issued driver’s licenses to thousands of people, and the projection is to reach 200,000 free licenses by the end of this year.
How to Enroll in the Ceará Government Program?
Those interested in receiving the free driver’s license must complete a registration, exclusively on the Detran website, clicking on the “Popular Driver’s License” box. After that, it is necessary to provide some personal data, such as CPF, full name, address, among others.
Next, it is necessary to define the type of beneficiary, such as: Person with Disabilities, Person Released from the Penitentiary System, or Auxílio Brasil Program. The system also requires a series of information in the registration form, such as profession and contact details. Additionally, it also asks for scanned documents to be attached, such as:
- CPF;
- Proof of residence;
- Photo identification document;
- Medical declaration in case of PWD;
- Declaration of Release from the Penitentiary System.
How Will the Selection Process for Accessing the Free Driver’s License Work?
The registrations will undergo an analysis by Detran, and those approved will be notified and must enroll at one of the partner driving schools of the Ceará government’s program. The status of the application can be followed through the official website of the department, which will also send information about the registration status via email.
To avoid scams, Detran of the State of Ceará warns that it will not send emails with links or instant messages via WhatsApp, as this type of action signals fraud or an attempt to scam. Therefore, registrants should remain vigilant.
