Students now have a voice! Detran-MS is launching an innovative system that allows for the evaluation of driving instructors. With a high failure rate and complaints about the quality of teaching, this new feature could transform learning for the CNH! See how it works and the impact of this change on Brazilian traffic!
The high failure rate in practical tests National Driver's License (CNH) has generated debates about the quality of education offered by driving schools in Brazil.
Among the main complaints of students are lack of patience of some instructors, ineffective teaching methods and even the precariousness of the vehicles used during classes.
To try to reverse this scenario and ensure more transparency in the driver training process, the Mato Grosso do Sul State Department of Transit (Detran-MS) launched a new feature: an instructor evaluation system carried out by the students themselves.
The initiative comes in a worrying context.
In 2024, more than 114 thousand candidates took the practical exam to obtain their first license, being 37.860 for Category A (motorcycles) and 76.199 for Category B (cars).
However, the numbers show that approval is still far from ideal.
Only 61,7% of candidates were considered suitable in Category A, while in Category B the index fell to 49,6%, which represents a total of 54.416 failures.
How does instructor evaluation work?
With the new evaluation system implemented by Detran-MS, students will be able to give grades and report on their experiences with the practical driving instructors.
The objective is to identify professionals who perform below expectations and promote improvements in teaching.
Evaluation forms will be made available at the end of the practical course and will allow students to analyze various aspects, such as:
- Patience and teaching skills of the instructor;
- Conditions of the vehicle used during classes;
- Punctuality and commitment of the professional;
- Ability to adapt to the student's learning pace.
According to DMV, the information collected will be used to monitor the quality of the service provided by driving schools and may even influence future inspections and corrective measures.
The impact of failure in the training of new drivers
The high failure rate in the practical test has several consequences.
Many candidates face frustration and demotivation, in addition to the financial impact, since each new attempt requires the payment of additional fees.
This factor can delay obtaining a license and make it difficult for those who depend on their driver's license to practice a profession to access the job market.
Furthermore, experts point out that frequent failure may indicate flaws in the teaching method adopted by driving schools, which reinforces the need for a more rigorous evaluation system for instructors.
Transparency and improvements in the qualification process
Detran-MS believes that the initiative to allow the evaluation of instructors can make the process of obtaining a driver's license fairer and more efficient.
With more detailed monitoring, driving schools are expected to invest in training their professionals and improving the structure offered to students.
Another positive point of the evaluation system is that it gives voice to students, who often felt powerless when faced with situations of neglect or lack of preparation on the part of instructors.
Now, your opinions can directly influence the traffic authority's decisions.
Similar measures may be adopted in other states
Although the initiative was implemented by Detran-MS, there is a possibility that other states will adopt similar measures in the future.
The modernization of teaching in driving schools is a growing need, especially given the evolution of technologies and changes in Brazilian traffic.
For those who wish to obtain a CNH and wish to evaluate their instructors, Detran-MS informs that the evaluation form will be available on the official website of the body and can also be completed in person at Detran units throughout the state.
The expectation is that, over time, the quality of driver training improves significantly, reducing not only the failure rate, but also accidents caused by inexperienced or poorly prepared drivers.
