The Pacific Ocean is a world apart, full of mysteries and dangers. Its immensity and diversity make it one of the most fascinating places on our planet!

Pacific Ocean, known throughout the world for its immensity and beauty, is the largest ocean on the planet, covering almost a third of the Earth's surface. With an extension greater than the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, the Pacific has peculiar characteristics that make it unique and fascinating.

The origin of the name of the Pacific Ocean dates back to 1520, when the Portuguese navigator Fernão de Magalhães sailed along the western coast of South America, close to the Andes Mountains. He gave this name to the ocean due to the calm and tranquility of the waters he found during his expedition. However, he soon realized that this calm was not constant and that the Pacific Ocean could be a dangerous and unpredictable place.

Pacific Ocean is the deepest ocean in the world

The Pacific Ocean is home to the largest number of tectonic plates on its floor, which makes it an area constantly affected by earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Furthermore, it has a large number of islands in its area, some of which are still unknown and uninhabited.

With an average depth of 4.282 meters, The Pacific Ocean is the deepest ocean in the world. Near the west coast of the United States, it can reach temperatures of up to 40,4 degrees Celsius at a depth of two thousand meters.

One of the most impressive features of the Pacific is the so-called Mariana Trench, located near Japanese territory. In this region, the depth can exceed 11 meters, making it the deepest point in the oceans.

Storms similar to Atlantic Ocean hurricanes

Meteorological conditions in the Pacific Ocean can generate catastrophic phenomena, such as typhoons and cyclones. These tropical storms, similar to Atlantic Ocean hurricanes, occur in warm waters and can reach winds of up to 110 miles per hour. Countries such as the Philippines, Japan, China and North Pacific islands are often affected by these events.

Its area corresponds to about 30% of the Earth's area

The Pacific is home to a multitude of curiosities. Its area corresponds to approximately 50% of the world's entire ocean area and 30% of the Earth's area. Furthermore, it is estimated that there are almost 30 thousand islands throughout the Pacific, some of them enormous in size, like Australia, and others mysterious and exotic, like Easter Island.

The Pacific also has a large number of seas, one of which is considered the most dangerous in the world: the Bering Sea. This sea, located between Asia and America, is known for its turbulent waters and extreme weather conditions.

The Pacific is one of the most fascinating places on our planet!

Unfortunately, the Pacific is also home to environmental problems. It is estimated that fish in the North Pacific ingest between 12 and 24 tons of plastic annually. In addition, a huge plastic island, approximately 1,6 million square kilometers in size, is located between California and Hawaii. This island has been nicknamed the “seventh continent” due to its size and continues to grow.

The Pacific is a world apart, full of mysteries and dangers. Its immensity and diversity make it one of the most fascinating places on our planet. Although its name means “peaceful ocean”, its reality is very different. Navigating its waters requires caution and respect, as it can prove unpredictable and even treacherous.

Let's be honest, you have to be very brave to face a sea like that. So, now tell me what you think of this incredible Ocean. I would like to know your opinion in the comments section. I would love to know if you are a maritime or offshore professional, or if you have ever come face to face with a storm on the high seas. I made two trips by ship from Brazil to Australia, in 1977/1978.
The first round trip through the Panama Canal. The ship was a Lyner type cargo ship built in Brazil.
The second, also a round trip, through the Strait of Magellan. It was the same type of ship but of Polish construction.
Times were different. There wasn't as much technology as there is today.
Some difficult moments; a great learning experience.

What to say about plastic in the Pacific Ocean.
I was very sad. An urgent solution is needed.

A little over 10 years ago, I still had a dream of traveling the oceans by sailboat. Hitchhiking, of course, after all, I have no way of doing that by commanding a boat like that. Although I have already sailed alone. Today, this desire has passed, but I continue to be fascinated by the ocean, but the fear is also speaking louder...lol...
