Neoenergia’s Distributors Are Enhancing Distribution to Improve and Automate Service During This Time When Consumption Increases

Through its distributors, Neoenergia is preparing to continue providing quality service during the summer with the Summer Plan. Focusing especially on major tourist hubs, particularly in the Northeast, which usually experience an increase in energy consumption of around 66% during this time of year due to a flow of tourists and high temperatures, Neoenergia has been verifying and updating the energy distribution lines.

The goal of this review is to ensure that energy reaches these places safely and with quality, without significant losses along the way so that tourist cities do not experience blackouts or related issues. A total of over 38,000 km of networks have been inspected, equivalent to more than five times the distance between São Paulo and New York.

The review and update are taking place at the distributors Coelba in Bahia, Neoenergia in Pernambuco, Neoenergia Cosern in Rio Grande do Norte, Neoenergia Elektro in São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul, and Neoenergia Brasília in the Federal District.

Seventy-six municipalities will be covered, with highlights for tourist spots like Porto Seguro and Morro de São Paulo in Bahia and Fernando de Noronha and Porto de Galinhas in Pernambuco.

We work to provide quality energy to all our customers, and for that, we strategically prepared the Summer Plan, ensuring quality energy supply even in coastal regions that see more tourist movement during this period. We are enhancing our actions with inspections, installation of modern equipment, differentiated logistics for field teams, and increasing specialists in the operations centers of the distributors and the service centers,” explains Jader Carneiro, superintendent of Networks and Substations at Neoenergia.

“The maintenance activities evaluate the conditions of the structures and the vegetation near the network, ensuring that we do not have improper system outages.” He continues.

How Is This Inspection Done? What Is Being Changed by Neoenergia’s Distributors?

This inspection uses thermal imaging camera technology, which checks the temperature of cables, connections, and transformers in the electrical network, in addition to other methods of verifying the integrity of the network.

In addition to maintenance, updates and modifications are also being made in all possible aspects of the network, including the sub-transmission systems where over 12,000 kilometers of lines and approximately 800 substation equipment have already been verified.

In addition to all this maintenance, reclosers and self-healing mechanisms are also being installed. This makes the possibility of a long-term blackout almost negligible.

The technology used in the circuit breakers isolates the area affected by the power outage, and most consumers facing energy loss due to this problem typically have their power restored in about 60 seconds.

To make everything even more interesting, integrated operations can identify the fault location and expedite maintenance work. This makes the cause indispensable.

Neoenergia Plays an Important Role in Brazilian Society by Offering Electricity Responsibly and Correctly, Always Prioritizing Its Customers’ Success

Another priority of this summer plan involves especially energy for water suppliers and the washing of insulators, to reduce the salinity that threatens the safety of these structures.

Additionally, there are Emergency Schemes with electricians on duty for critical moments, such as the year-end holidays. All five distributors have different schemes with staff for these high-demand moments.

The Uncertainty of Carnival and Restrictions May Be Problems for Summer Tourism in Brazil

With the shadow of the Omicron variant haunting the economic recovery and uncertainty about the Carnival’s realization, the tourism market may still face difficulties and problems in 2022.

Some states have not confirmed Carnival parties or large gatherings, and there is still a requirement for vaccination passports to enter the country, which may lead to a potential drop in business.

Even if the results of tourism and energy consumption do not increase significantly, the work done by Neoenergia will still reflect in greater savings and quality for the users in the affected regions.
