“One employee remains hospitalized in critical condition, with about 90% of his body burned at the public hospital in Macaé. This morning, the second victim of the accident passed away. The employee was an inspection and calibration technician, and he had 96% of his body burned. On the same day of the accident, another 28-year-old employee also died.
The ship had just left the Marlim Field, which is one of the largest oil extraction areas in the Campos Basin, with at least 13 platforms in operation. This same ship was heading to the Port of Açú, in São João da Barra. This vessel was undergoing maintenance at the time of the accident.
In a statement, Petrobras said it invests in intensive training to prevent this type of accident and requires the same from its supplier companies. It also expressed condolences for the death of employee Erick S. Nascimento Freitas.
