For the new factory, which will be inaugurated in three years, an investment of R$350 million has been made. The unit will have a production capacity of 5,000 tons of paper per month.
The decision to expand the factory is linked to the increase in sales of cleaning and hygiene products in 2020, with families spending more time at home due to the pandemic. Last year, the company recorded a 14% increase in revenue, surpassing R$ 1 billion.

“With the pandemic, we faced margin pressures on the input side due to the rise in the dollar and the price of cellulose in the international market,” said Victor Coutinho, president of Carta Fabril. ”On the other hand, Covid boosted the personal hygiene market. It is a sector in the country where the high-quality products we manufacture are still used by a small portion of the population. With rising income, consumption advances. We operate with a long-term growth perspective,” the executive concluded.
About the Papermaking Plants of Casa Fabril
The expansion of the factory in Rio will generate 500 direct job openings. Currently, there are 780. The company, which started in 1990 with a factory in São Gonçalo, now has two production units.
The Piraí plant produces personal and child care lines, with items such as disposable diapers, sanitary pads, and toilet paper. The other unit, in Anápolis, Goiás, produces family care items and also serves as a base for the production of paper from Carta Fabril.
“Today, we receive paper rolls from Anápolis to convert into products. With paper production, we will start using biomass in the drying process. This has a multiplicative income effect for the region because we will need five thousand tons of eucalyptus chips per month to do this. We will also hire transport companies and drivers for logistics,” the executive highlighted.
Executives from Carta Fabril met with representatives of the state government of Rio this week to present the project.
“This expansion will reinforce the economic and social development of the southern Fluminense region, generating more jobs and income for Piraí and its surroundings. In addition, it will reflect in the strengthening and qualification of the productive chain and regional suppliers,” highlighted Leonardo Soares, the state secretary of Economic Development.
