After Heavy Rains That Prevented The Arrival Of Ships At The Port Of Itajaí And Navegantes, The Dredger Galileo Galilei Arrived At The Complex To Begin Dredging Works On The Access Channel And Enable The Resumption Of Activities.

On last Friday, (06/17), the dredger Galileo Galilei arrived at the Port of Itajaí, located in the state of Santa Catarina, to begin dredging works on the access channel to the Itajaí and Navegantes Complex. This way, the resumption of activities with large vessels can happen, after a long suspension caused by the heavy rains that prevented the entry of vessels in the area.

Dredging Works On The Access Channel To The Port Of Itajaí And The Port Of Navegantes Are Initiated With The Arrival Of The Dredger Galileo Galilei

After a long wait from the port authority, the dredger Galileo Galilei has finally arrived at the Port of Itajaí and has already begun dredging works that will be responsible for “saving” the access channel to the complex formed by the ports of Itajaí and Navegantes.

Thus, after a long suspension due to the heavy rains that prevented the arrival of large vessels, the Port of Itajaí will soon be able to resume its activities with these ships.

The dredger Galileo Galilei arrived on site and quickly began works to widen the sand strip of the Central Beach of Balneário Camboriú. However, it was not the only one to arrive at the Port of Itajaí to ensure the resumption of activities with large vessels.

This is because another dredger, the Water Injection, also operates for the maintenance of the channel, together with the Galileo Galilei to ensure dredging works with more efficiency and speed, aiming for the normalization of operations in the complex.

Thus, with all the works that will be carried out by the dredger Galileo Galilei and the Water Injection in the access channel, the joint action will give the access channel greater depth, and consequently, allow larger vessels to circulate smoothly, without the risk of heavier ships running aground during this process.

This was the main problem faced by the Port of Itajaí during the last weeks, as the rains had been preventing the resumption of activities.

Dredger Galileo Galilei Has Already Been Carrying Out Other Operations At The Complex, But Now Focuses On Dredging Works For The Resumption Of The Access Channel To The Complex

The dredger Galileo Galilei has been ensuring great efficiency in the access channel works at the Port of Itajaí, as it operates by extracting waste through a suction system and sending it offshore where it is ejected, having a capacity of 18 thousand cubic meters. Thus, the maximum draft for the arrival of ships should be resumed as planned soon.

Additionally, the dredger is already carrying out other operations at the Port of Itajaí, under a contract between the Port Authority and the Van Oord company for over R$ 230 million. But now, the main focus is on the resumption of the access channel so that the ports of Itajaí and Navegantes can return to their usual cargo movement schedule.

In conclusion, Fábio da Veiga, Superintendent of the Port of Itajaí, commented on the works and highlighted: “Continuous maintenance of the channels is necessary for the better navigation of large vessels. This time, it was necessary to call on the Galileo Galilei, a suction dredger, for draft maintenance. The Port of Itajaí continues dredging the docks so that everything flows in operations.”
