Starlink registered a growth of 145,8% in Brazil, reaching 326 thousand accesses. Rio de Janeiro leads the list of cities with the most subscribers, while states such as Minas Gerais and Pará also stand out.
Bringing connectivity to isolated regions has always been one of the main objectives of Starlink, a satellite internet company in billionaire Elon Musk.
However, the most recent data from the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) reveals a curious pattern: many of the cities that lead in terms of number of subscribers are far from being considered remote areas.
According to a survey by the Teletime website, Rio de Janeiro leads the Brazilian ranking with 3.647 Starlink hits.

Other large cities, such as São Paulo and Brasília, also appear on the list, although the access rate per inhabitant in these locations is low when compared to more distant municipalities.
The cities with the most access
Starlink’s presence is rapidly expanding across the country.
According to Anatel data from December 2024, the operator ended the year with 326 thousand hits in Brazil, an impressive growth of 145,8% in one year. Among the municipalities with the most subscribers, the following stand out:
- Rio de Janeiro - RJ): 3.647 hits
- Sao Paulo-SP): Significant number, but low rate per inhabitant
- Brasilia (DF): Concentrated use in government and rural sectors
- Tefe (AM): Highest proportional rate, with 410,3 accesses per 10 thousand inhabitants
- Altamira (PA): Large territorial extension favors adhesion
In smaller municipalities, Starlink’s presence becomes even more relevant.
While super urbanized cities like São Paulo register less than three accesses for every 10 thousand inhabitants, Amazonian locations such as Tefé stand out with much higher rates.
This reinforces the role of satellite internet in digital inclusion in hard-to-reach regions.
The federal capital also appears as one of the places with high adherence to the service.
Brasília is home to a large number of government agencies and embassies, as well as rural areas where satellite internet is a viable solution.
Altamira, in Pará, the largest municipality in Brazil in terms of territorial extension, faces a major logistical challenge in providing conventional internet, making Starlink an essential alternative.
Why is Starlink growing in big cities?
Although Starlink was designed to serve remote regions, its popularity in capital cities can be explained by different factors.
Many users adopt satellite internet as a redundancy link, ensuring connection in case of fiber optic failures.
Companies, businesses and even public bodies see the advantage of having an extra connectivity option, especially in cities with overloaded infrastructure.
Additionally, the demand for stable, high-speed connections may be driving Starlink usage even where other options already exist.
Rio de Janeiro, for example, has an urbanization rate of 100%, which does not prevent thousands of users from looking for a more reliable service.
States with the most Starlink subscribers
The distribution of Starlink throughout Brazil is also noteworthy. The leading state in accesses is Minas Gerais, followed by other regions where traditional internet coverage still faces challenges.
- Minas Gerais: 40 thousand hits
- For: 38 thousand hits
- Sao Paulo: 36 thousand hits
- Amazonas: 33 thousand hits
In total, Starlink is present in 5.178 of the 5.570 Brazilian municipalities. However, only 738 cities have more than 100 accesses, and 100 municipalities surpass the 500 subscriber mark.
Another relevant fact is that only 31 cities have more than 1.000 hits of Starlink. This scenario reinforces that, although the service is widely distributed, most of the hiring is still concentrated in a few locations.
Starlink's leadership in the satellite internet market
Almost 60% of the Brazilian market share In this segment, Starlink has established itself as the largest satellite internet provider in the country.
The company's growth also reflects the increased demand for reliable connectivity in locations where traditional infrastructure still cannot fully meet the needs.
Elon Musk's company achieved this feat by offering a solution that is easy to install and does not require large structures to operate, unlike fiber optics, which requires considerable construction and investment for expansion.
This has attracted everyone from small providers and companies to individual users who need stable internet for remote work and other activities.
As more municipalities seek technological solutions to overcome geographic challenges, Starlink is expected to continue its expansion.
Whether as the main source of internet in remote areas or as an essential complement to ensure connection stability, the company continues to expand its share of the Brazilian market.
This musk came to revolutionize, congratulations to PTzada, who likes it doesn't want to know, he likes the PT channel and internet, it's just a lie
Very good…
I have fixed Starlink Internet on the farm, is it possible to replace it with Internet on my cell phone, would there be any benefit?
