The Dismissal of Tesla Employees Symbolizes a 3.5% Reduction in the Total Workforce of Elon Musk’s Billion-Dollar Company
Elon Musk, president of the automotive Tesla, confirmed that the firm will limit the number of salaried employees by 10% over the next three consecutive months. According to calculations made by the executive, the layoffs represent a drain of 3.5% on the overall employee plan.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Musk reported that the layoffs occurred because the surge in the category of professionals was faster than anticipated. The executive’s current proposal is to increase the number of hourly workers at his company.
Musk also states that, within a year, his proposal is to increase the total number of employees at Tesla and reiterates that the current layoffs will not be significant for the company.

Layoffs at Tesla Have Been Ongoing
In light of the controversies surrounding the layoffs at Tesla, which have been happening for some time, the company is facing some lawsuits stemming from the frequent dismissals. For example, two workers from a Tesla battery factory in Nevada claim that the company did not meet the 60-day notification requirement to alert them about the layoffs.
When questioned about the matter, Musk said he would not waste time on lawsuits that, according to him, lack legitimacy.
Even though controversial, experts state that Musk’s decisions, including the layoffs, directly influence the corporate world. The executive is participating in the purchase of Twitter, is developing SpaceX with space flights, operates Starlink satellites to provide, among other functionalities, internet in remote areas, and is also developing electric cars at Tesla.
Regarding competition, Musk believes that Tesla has secured its place and does not think about competitors. For him, the company has long waitlists and the current challenge is to adjust supply chains to production capacity.
Elon Musk Imposes Impressive Rule on Tesla Employees Recently
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, requested employees of the company, in the week of June 3rd, to return to the office or, otherwise, they would be subject to termination, according to an internal email obtained by Reuters.
According to an email sent by Musk to his employees, he states that all Tesla employees are required to be in the office for at least 40 hours a week. Furthermore, the executive mentions in the email that if employees do not show up at the office, he will consider that they have resigned from their job and that the higher their position in the company, the greater their presence should be.
Additionally, Elon Musk added that if it weren’t for the hours he spent working in the factory, Tesla would have gone bankrupt a long time ago.
According to a report from the news agency, two sources validated the authenticity of the aforementioned email. When questioned, Tesla did not address the controversies it is involved in.
Days after receiving the email, Musk confirmed the layoff of at least 10% of the automaker’s employees. As mentioned above, around 100,000 people were employed by Tesla and its subsidiaries at the end of 2021, according to an annual document provided by the company.
