With this advancement in the works of the Marlim Azul thermoelectric plant, the municipality of Macaé, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, has consolidated itself as the “Energy City”
On last Monday (08/16), the construction site of the Marlim Azul Thermoelectric Plant, in the city of Macaé, registered the delivery of the generator that will be part of the UTE’s production system, one of the most modern and efficient in the world. The 500-ton equipment has the capacity to produce 615 MW (megawatts) per hour of energy, enough to supply the direct consumption of 1.5 million people. City of Macaé Becoming a Reference in Energy Production
Mayor Welberth Rezende said that the project of the Marlim Azul Thermoelectric Plant consolidates the city of Macaé as a reference in the state of Rio de Janeiro and in the country, as a hub for transforming natural gas into energy, thus fostering an expanding market that boosts our development. This new phase also stimulates our economy and promotes the positive effect: the generation of job opportunities for our population, said Welberth.
According to Arke Energia, the Marlim Azul Thermoelectric Plant in Macaé is expected to be completed by the end of 2022, thereby ensuring the production and supply of electricity starting in January 2023. The UTE will have the capacity to produce 565.5 MW of energy and will be the first Thermoelectric Plant to use gas produced in the pre-salt, supplied by Shell.

The New Equipment That Arrived at the Construction Site
The equipment that will go to the thermoelectric plant weighs about 500 tons, which arrived in the city of Macaé on a truck 116 meters long that required a traffic scheme on RJ-168, and has the capacity to produce 615 megawatts per hour (MW/h) of energy, enough to supply the direct consumption of 1.5 million people.
To ensure the safe transport of the equipment, the Traffic Coordination team of the Urban Mobility Secretariat of Macaé started operating with vehicles and signage, and the release of vehicle passage, from the early hours of Monday.
According to the Macaé city hall, at certain times, the passage of vehicles on RJ-168 was released to ease the traffic coming from BR-101, towards Macaé, and also the traffic to the mountainous region, which was stopped in the morning, with buses coming from the Serra diverted by Trevo dos 40, near Cabiúnas. Another important piece in the construction of the Marlim Azul Thermoelectric Plant is a turbine, manufactured in Japan by Mitsubishi, which is also expected to arrive in Macaé this month, ensuring the plant’s capacity to produce energy for 24 hours, remembering that the expectation is that the UTE will begin operations as early as the 1st quarter of next year.
