Embraer Is Continuously Working on Its ESG Commitment and, to Achieve Neutrality in Emissions, the Company Closed a New Electricity Purchase Agreement from Renewable Sources

Embraer announced on Monday (30) that it has signed a contract for the purchase of electricity, and also stated that all energy purchased by the company in the country will come from renewable sources starting in 2024. With this initiative, the company has advanced its commitment by one year, which was initially set for 2025. By purchasing the Renewable Energy Certificate (CER) for 2024, Embraer will eliminate Scope 2 carbon emissions in the country, transitioning to having all of its electricity supply sourced from renewable sources such as solar and wind, in addition to contributing to the expansion of the renewable sources market.

Embraer Comments on Electricity Acquisition

In a statement, Embraer noted that, over the past year, it consumed about 170 thousand MWH globally, with a significant portion of this consumption occurring in Brazil, approximately 67%.

According to Embraer’s Vice President of People, Communication, and ESG, Carlos Alberto Griner, this electricity acquisition initiative marks a new beginning for Embraer and demonstrates the company’s commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices in transitioning to a low-pollution business model, such as carbon dioxide.

The executive also states that ESG is one of the pillars of the company’s strategic plan and has an extensive program with various fronts. Embraer seeks opportunities, like this with renewable sources, to drive down its CO2 emissions. In August of last year, the company announced its ESG goals as part of its commitment to a sustainable future, including activities that do not emit carbon dioxide by 2040.

Embraer Will Use Electric and Hybrid Propulsion

The company’s goal was to have 100% of its electricity usage from renewable sources by 2025 in the country, which has been advanced by one year. For global operations, the deadline is set for the beginning of the next decade, along with greater adoption of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

The Brazilian manufacturer is also developing technologies and products with zero or low pollutant emissions, such as electric or hybrid propulsion, hydrogen, and SAF.

In November of last year, Embraer announced the Energy Family project, which consists of 4 aircraft powered by energy from renewable sources, aimed at helping the industry achieve its goal of zero carbon emissions by 2050.
