During the 56th Edition of the High-Level Meeting of the Energy Integration Commission (CIER), Brazil Is Expanding Energy Integration with Bolivia, Peru, and Argentina
With the rising electricity bills, Brazil is expanding energy integration among partners in South America. During the 56th edition of the High-Level Meeting of the Energy Integration Commission (CIER), which took place in Panama, Bracier, the Brazilian committee represented by the General Director of Itaipu Binacional, João Francisco Ferreira, signed three Joint Declarations of Cooperation to encourage regional energy integration with high-level representatives from Argentina, Peru, and Bolivia. The agreement will also focus on making investments in renewable sources and new hydroelectric plants.

New Hydroelectric Plants and Renewable Sources in Brazil
With Bolivia, there are studies for investments in a new binational hydroelectric plant located on the Mamoré River, upstream of the Municipality of Guajará-Mirim, in the State of Rondônia, leveraging Itaipu’s experience and also exploring interconnection possibilities between the states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul with the neighboring country, as well as analyzing the feasibility of carrying out exchanges between Brazil and Bolivia through Argentina.
Regarding Argentina, there is a study to install two hydroelectric plants on the Uruguay River: the Panambi and Garabi projects, which will provide Brazil and Argentina with electricity generated from renewable sources, in addition to solidifying energy integration between the two countries.
Involved Countries Demonstrate a Strong Partnership for Investments in Renewable Energies
For both the Executive Technical Director of the binational, Celso Torino, and the General Director of Itaipu in Brazil, João Francisco Ferreira, the negotiations demonstrate a solid partnership for the sovereignty and development of the involved countries.
Brazil is taking another significant step towards new partnerships that will bring investments and hydroelectric plants that will reduce electricity bills and will soon become a reality ensuring greater electrical security for all, through the fraternity that governs relations.
It is worth noting that CIER is an international organization with no profit motive and unlimited duration, recognized by the government, and brings together organizations and companies from the energy sector of member countries, as well as related entities and associated members. CIER’s mission is to promote and foster the integration of the energy sector in the region through the joint cooperation of its members.
