Embraer Will Grant Collective Vacation in January to All Its Employees in Brazil, About 15,000 Workers, According to the Metalworkers’ Union of São José dos Campos (SP)
Embraer will grant collective vacation in January to all its employees in Brazil; about 15,000 workers, in preparation for the transfer of control of its commercial aviation division to the American Boeing, reported the Metalworkers’ Union of São José dos Campos, on Thursday, October 10. Last week, Embraer opened more than 300 positions for young people seeking their first job.
Salaries will be paid normally during the leave, which will last from January 6 to 20, said the company and the metalworkers’ union representing Embraer’s workers.

According to the union, in addition to halting the company’s activities in the state of São Paulo, it will also affect units in Belo Horizonte.
The entity added that the company’s decision “causes concern among workers, worried about the measures that the new management of the company may eventually take.”
The Boeing agreed to buy 80% of Embraer’s commercial aircraft division for $4.75 billion, a deal approved by shareholders and the Brazilian government, but which is undergoing intense regulatory scrutiny in Europe.
“The purpose of the leave is to implement the internal segregation of the commercial aviation business,” said Embraer in a statement.
It is unlikely that the deal will receive regulatory approval by January 20, as European authorities have set a deadline of February 20 to issue their decision on the agreement.
The company said that workers will return to their normal functions at Embraer, without any involvement from Boeing, until the deal is approved.
Embraer said this month that it expects the deal to close in early 2020, after further regulatory scrutiny. Previously, Embraer had said the deal would close by the end of 2019.
