Kleanbus Developed A Highly Advanced Modular Technology That Can Transform Any Conventional Combustion Engine Bus Into An Electric Bus
The British company Kleanbus developed a state-of-the-art modular electric vehicle platform that can convert any conventional combustion engine bus into an electric bus in as little as two weeks. The company also uses motors based on electromagnet technology, meaning they do not use permanent magnets, thus, these motors do not require rare earth minerals.
Kleanbus claims to collaborate with some suppliers in the development of the solution known as Repower Bus. They also claim that with this new technology, they can convert any bus, whether it is single or double-decker, into a fully electric bus at a cost that is one-fifth of what would normally be required. Watch the video illustrating how a regular bus is converted into a fully electric one.
British Company Kleanbus Uses State-of-the-Art Technology To Convert Any Diesel Bus Into An Eco-Friendly Electric Vehicle
To do this, they first scan the interior of the bus, then prototype, and subsequently develop a custom platform for each vehicle. After that, they design each piece of equipment to fit where the diesel engine was previously located. It would take less than two weeks to adapt a bus with a Kleanbus system after the specialized electric drive had been built and validated.

According to the CEO of Kleanbus, the United Kingdom could have fully electric vehicle fleets up to six years earlier than projections suggest. On the other hand, it is currently unclear whether this Repower concept will actually be implemented. The company is also discussing a variety of financing methods, including vehicle purchase, battery leasing, among others.
Kleanbus Has Several Partners In The UK To Bring The Repower Bus Project To Life As Soon As Possible
On the project website, it is possible to see that Kleanbus has partners such as Zemo Partnership, an organization existing to accelerate the shift to zero-emission mobility in the UK. Advanced Electric Machines (AEM), responsible for providing an eco-friendly electric powertrain that will help achieve electrification without using rare earth elements. Goodman Wolfe Consulting, for the supply of batteries. And CPT, the trade association for the bus industry in the UK.
The company’s co-founder, Joe Tighe, stated that 9% of buses in the UK are still powered by diesel engines, which emit large amounts of carbon, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter. This represents 35,000 buses on the road, polluting the environment. In this regard, the country faces a significant challenge to decarbonize this vital transportation sector rapidly and is striving to do so as quickly as possible. He also asserted that their method is faster and more financially prudent.
