Solatio Energia in Partnership with the MS Government Will Make Million-Dollar Investments in the Construction of a Solar Plant Promising to Generate Thousands of Jobs.

This Tuesday (18), the Spanish group Solatio Energia announced an investment of R$ 8.5 billion in the construction of the largest solar plant in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The project, which will create many jobs, includes 3,500 hectares of solar panels and a generation capacity of 2.5 GW of electric power.

Solatio Energia and MS Have Been Negotiating Since 2016

The investment announcement made by Solatio Energia took place in a meeting with Governor Eduardo Riedel and Secretary Jaime Verruck from the Secretariat of the Environment, Development, Science, Technology and Innovation (Semadesc), at the booth of the Government of Mato Grosso do Sul at the 83rd edition of Expogrande.

According to Riedel, this is Mato Grosso do Sul moving forward with private investment, with people who trust the state to achieve clean energy generation and jobs towards 2030, with the state being Carbon Neutral. It’s a complete paradigm shift. It is a giant solar plant, one of the largest present in Brazil.

Secretary Jaime Verruck recalled the history of negotiations between the Government of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul and Solatio Energia to make the investment viable and also highlighted the alignment of the proposal with MS Renovável, one of the state administration’s instruments to achieve the goal of making the territory of Mato Grosso do Sul Carbon Neutral by 2030.

The negotiations between the State Government and Solatio began in 2016 and have now materialized with the announcement for its policy to encourage clean and sustainable energy generation in the state.

New Solar Plant Will Be Fully Operational by 2025 Promising to Generate New Jobs and Income

Pedro Vaquer, president of Solatio Energia, stated that the investment is being made in partnership with the company Tradener, which will sell the energy generated in conjunction with the free energy market. The construction of the solar panels will begin in September of this year, creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs.

According to Vaquer, Solatio Energia has a contract to start generation as early as January 2025. The solar panel set in Cassilândia will be connected to the Chapadão do Sul station, and the one in Paranaíba will connect to the Inocência station. This is a partnership with the Government of Mato Grosso do Sul, a state that deserves an investment of this magnitude.

Ranking 11th in the state Distributed Generation ranking according to ABSOLAR, the solar irradiation rate reaches 5,500 Wh/m² per day, which is practically double the solar irradiation of Germany, which has only 3,000 Wh/m² per day. The difference is that the country is a pioneer in technology and has a stronger market presence, while Brazil has yet to use solar energy extensively.
