Enel Group’s Renewable Energy Arm Begins Expansion Works for Solar Park in São Gonçalo, Piauí

Aligned with the strong investment climate in the renewable energy sector in Brazil, VVVA, the Brazilian renewable energy subsidiary of Enel Green Power Brasil Participações (EGPB), has started the construction of the 133 MW expansion of the São Gonçalo solar park, located in São Gonçalo do Gurguéia, in the State of Piauí.
The works will increase the total capacity of the plant to 608 MW, and the investment from Enel Group will be around R$ 422 million for the construction of a new 133 MW section for the park.

Antonio Cammisecra, head of Enel Green Power, spoke about the importance of the works: “We are expanding the São Gonçalo park, which is currently the largest solar park under construction in South America, strengthening our commitment to increase our renewable capacity in Brazil, where we are the main player in solar and wind power generation in terms of installed capacity and project portfolio”.

Enel’s Operations in Brazil

In Brazil, Enel Group has two subsidiaries, EGPB and Enel Brasil, which together have an installed renewable capacity of over 2.4 GW, of which 782 MW is wind energy, 370 MW is solar photovoltaic, and 1,269 MW is hydropower. Regarding new projects, EGPB has around 1.9 GW under execution in the country.

When the expansion works for the São Gonçalo solar park are completed, the plant is expected to generate around 360 GWh per year, avoiding the emission of approximately 207,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.
