Aiming for Sustainability and Economy for Its Agencies, Bradesco Signed a 10-Year Partnership with Enel X That Foresees the Construction of 9 Solar Power Plants with Capacity of 11 MW
Banco Bradesco and Enel X have partnered to build 9 solar power plants to supply the agencies of the financial institution. In total, the plants will have a capacity of 11 MW, enough energy to power more than 300 agencies. The contract between Enel X and Bradesco is for 10 years. The plants will be implemented in the cities of Quixeré in Ceará, Seropédica and Campos dos Goytacazes in Rio de Janeiro, and Buriti Alegre in Goiás.

In total, 18,000 panels will be used to generate clean energy, in an area corresponding to 246,000 square meters. Operations are scheduled to start in June of next year, and the project was designed specifically for Bradesco.
According to Enel X’s responsible representative in Brazil, Francisco Scoffa, the energy generated by the solar power plants will be fed into the distribution grid, generating a credit that will be allocated to the agencies. Scoffa claims it is a model that generates savings and predictability, and even with the construction costs, the solar power plants will still yield significant returns.

National energy dilemma: Brazilians support clean energy but reject increases in tariff costs to finance the sustainable transition.
According to Adelmo Romero Perez Junior, Director of the Asset Department at Bradesco, the savings generated by the plants exceed 10% on energy tariffs. Romero highlights that investing in projects like this mitigates the impact of tariff flags. In addition, Bradesco has four other solar power plants.
Bradesco Uses Renewable Sources Since 2020
Companies with a large network of agencies or points of sale, such as a bank, face an additional challenge when purchasing energy. Although, when all units are summed, the consumption is high enough for the free market, each agency counts as a single consumer.
Bradesco acquires clean energy in the free market for its administrative buildings but must pay the normal distribution price in stores, which accounts for 60% of the consumption. According to Junior, it is not possible to have 100% of the agencies in distributed generation. Junior reports that in all possible locations, solar power plants are utilized, and where they are not, everything is compensated by the purchase of certificates. The bank has been using only sustainable energy in all its activities since last year.
Enel X Contributes to Sustainability in Various Countries
Enel X’s plans in the country include, in addition to creating projects for large companies, as seen in the partnership with Bradesco, working in the areas of mobility and smart cities.
The company already has electric bus projects in Chile and Colombia, where it operates more than 500 and 1,500 electric buses, respectively. According to Scoffa, the business model for mobility is similar to that of the solar power plants.
Enel X acquires the vehicles, installs charging infrastructure in the users’ garages, and takes care of maintenance so that the contractor only needs to worry about logistical operation.
